    Something my FTF group liked

You take a character from a children's book and make a character based off of it. Of course you horribly warp it first. Here's the real challenge the campaign is a more serious, darker world then normal and your characters need to fit in.

I made a character based off Clifford the Big Red Dog. My version had him being the son of Cerberus and had him expelled from hell and onto Earth by his father to save him from his father's enemies. He had fire based powers as a person and when he changed to his dog form (looked nothing like the real Clifford other then being big and mainly red) he was very strong, very fast, and capable of summoning a pack of hell hounds to serve him.

Another player decided to make Emily Elizibeth because I mad Clifford. Her version of Emily Elizibeth was a pretty gloomy 16 year old witch. The game was tons of fun and so popular we may continue to play it.
Now with a certain percentage of recycled materials....What? Zero is a percent!

    So,

Sounds like Clifford, The Big Red Dog, mixed in with a bit of the basic premise of the movie Little Nicky.

    Very interesting...

    WOOF!!!

Repped on the concept idea...nice twist to a children's standard!

Humm...what other childhood book charaters can be twisted into odd heros?
Dick, Jain, and Spot (from Fun With Dick And Jain)? (Which reminds me, would it be odd if there was a superhero who spoke in simple, Dick And Jain style rime?) Cureous George? The Magic School Bus? The Cat In The Hat? I Am Sam (of Green Eggs And Ham fame)? The Monster At The End Of This Book?

Humm...you got my mind storming. Consider yourself reped.

I personally wouldn't be able to use Dick and Jane as heroes, the internet and a twisted mind have me viewing them in a different light. I would choose Alice in Wonderland characters, as it is my favorite book. Yamamura did a nice write up for an Alice type character recently in the "Supers with Pictures: Fun for all" thread which is here. I love the write up so just had to point it out.

I do like the idea of speaking style. I think it would be great mostly for a villain, as it could possibly get to be annoying after a bit. What characters wouldn’t want to take out a Sam-I-Am type bad guy.

The 11th worst character concept i had was Santa. Not quite a childrens story character, but close. The idea was that santa was a biker during the off time, and the sleigh could shapeshift into a chopper, which ran on gas or could be pulled by reigndeer. Santa had about str 30, a violent temper, (but couldn't hurt kids), distinguishing features of rosey red cheeks, belly like a bowl full of jelly etc.

He also had a shotgun shooting either christmas orniments (explosion) or coal (AoE Line).

Plus a limited teleport, only to move through chimnies (-2)
And that's Lord Roy the Ruthless to you!

Something Positive did a small arc they called, "Girly D&D," where the characters all created PCs based on children's toys. They all modded theirs like mad, except Davan, who had a Care Bear.

Here's the start of the arc.

Warning: non-board-allowed language, for those who haven't read Something Positive before. Very bad language n stuff.

H.A and Margret Rey wrote the original Curious George tale circa 1940. In fact, the two German natives fled the city of Paris on homemade bicycles carrying only their clothes and their manuscripts literally hours ahead of Hitler's troops. (True.)

In 1941, you couldn't publish a story, even a children's book, about a heroic Resistance spy and his trained (and possibly superintelligent) chimp who operated throughout the European theater during the Second World War, but you could sell a series of charming children's stories about a delightful little monkey who amuses (and distracts) everyone he meets by engaging in various antics while out of sight of his (mysteriously-) often absent keeper...
