    a few BoECV Questions

Making a new character and I have some questions.

How does an RKA w/BoECV work? damage vs. what defenses

    Is mental defense considered Resistant?

What about a character without any Mental Defense? are they hosed?

Could you put AP on an RKA w/BoECV?

How do you break out of an Entangle w/BoECV?

Thank you very much in advance,

    -Grey

It works like a regular Mental Power. Its range becomes LOS and it is targeted and defended by EGO based combat value.

Not generally, although with the limited utlity of special defenses I recommend, as do the GGU house rules, that they be considered resistant for free.

Yep, just about. Although remember the RKA does not do any body unless you purchase the +1 Does Body Adder.

Yes, but honestly unless you are trying to kill Menton I wouldn't bother. The amount of MD you are likely to face runs in the 10 point range.

Use EGO/5 for dice, allow the use of EGO Blast or even Telepathy instead of strength as an optional breakout.

It is my understanding, that you would require Resistant Mental DEF in order to defend against RKA BOECV.

EDIT: I think I am wrong, here. Resistant Mental DEF should only be required, if Does BODY was added to the attack. Still, this is a pretty mean surprise for the victom with only normal Mental DEF.

I don't have the book in front of me, so I stand to be corrected. However, in my opinion, it works much like any other ability converted to BoECV. It gets LOS range, it attacks using ECV's, and it acts vs mental defense. It also does not BOD unless the additional +1 for "Does BOD" is paid. That's an advantage I would be reluctant to allow in my games.

I believe it is not, and would have to be purchased as such (in a force field; Damage Resistance) to be resistant. I like the idea of allowing MD to be resistant as a default. Given I would not likely allow "Does BOD", just assuming the first point is automatically resistant wuld do the trick in my games.

They'll take the full Stun, just as they wuld have against an Ego Blast or an EB BoECV.

A note: A 6d6 Ego Blast (or EB BoECV) would do between 6 and 36 STUN (average Stun of 21) points against this hypothetical target. A 2d6 BoECV KA will do between 2 and 60 Stun (average 17.5). The Stun multiple enhancxes average damage only where there are defenses to penetrate.

    Sure

By the book, I believe you use STR. The Mental Paralysis example in the bok charges an extra +1/4 to act vs Ego instead of STR, in which case you use Ego like STR (ie if you have 20 Ego you roll 4d6, spend 2 END, and can push as normal).

    Re: a few BoECV Questions

Note that you can buy Damage Resistance to make your existing MD resistant.

Also note that the stun done by a RKA BoECV still gets non-resistant MD applied against the STUN result, and the BODY result isn't going to matter unless it is bought with Does Body.

Exclamation Re: a few BoECV Questions

Because the character with Resistant Mental Def, Power Def, and/or Flash Def is such a rare thing, AVLD or BoECV attacks with the Does BODY Advantage are some of the nastiest constructs in the game, and should be examined very carefully whenever they appear on a PC or NPC. Consider them the "nuclear option" of HERO.
