    Tacticon, Denver (9/1-4)

I posted this once before, but it seems to have evaporated. (Must've forgot to buy "persistant" again!)

For anyone going (or thinking of going) to Tacticon Labor Day weekend, I'll be running two Hero games. below are the blurbs from the website [http://www.denvergamers.com/tacticon/rpgs.asp]

    503 Champions
    "Revenge of the Henchminions"
A number of supervillain henchmen (you know: the low-powered red shirts the villain uses to distract the superheroes while he escapes) are hanging out in a bar that caters to their crowd, minding their own business and complaining about their lousy dental coverage, when a team of superheroes bursts in to arrest one of their number. But the heroes didn't count on there being quite so many henchmen there... Players each run 4 or 5 henchmen and try to take down the superhero team. A grand melee! Rules taught, characters provided.
    Beginner. Limit 6 players. (Cost $3) 503.5
    FRI (9/2) 7PM-11PM

    502 Star Hero
"Browncoats, Reavers and Feds – Oh My!"
How come it never goes smooth? This was supposed to be a simple smuggling job. Deliver a load of mining supplies to the Southgate settlement on Jackson’s Moon. Collect payment. Refuel the ship. On to the next job. Easy money. Except for the part where the settlement got hit by Reavers and now the Feds are blaming you for the massacre. What else could go wrong? (Never ask that question!) Can’t wait for the September 30th “Serenity” premiere? Me neither! Join us for a whole heap of fun set in the world of Joss Whedon’s “Firefly.” Rules taught, characters provided.
    Beginner. Limit 6 players. (Cost $3) 502.7
    SAT (9/3) 9AM-1PM

Hope to see some of you there,

I think I'll be there .. I just remembered why I hate gaming conventions : I pay to be able to show up and then pay again to be able to play in planned events.

sigh. $28 for the weekend and both games isn't horrible though.

That's why I'm reffing - judge three events and the front door is free!

(`Tho I still have to pay for the individual events I play in.)

I don't work any convention except the local Anime con (Nan Desu Kan.. plug plug) .. I used to work lots of them, my wife still does. 5 years as a Director for a convention has effectively killed my enthusiasm for conventions...

but... playing with different people always opens my head up to new ideas so I'm pretty sure I'll be there. Especially since the hotel is 15 minutes from my house (or 25 if Colo Blvd Traffic hates me as much as it normally does).

Not sure why this thread keeps disappearing, but thought I'd see if I could resurect it, just to advertise the con a little.

(Now if I can just get all my write-ups finished. Next time I agree to run three different events, someone please smack me!)

I'll be surprised if that's the case, but if it is let me know and we'll work something out. One more player that actually knows the system would probably be more of a help than a burden.

Just found out that my Star Hero game is full but there's still room in the Champions game.

Ghost-Angel: if you haven't heard back from the con folks yet, you can PM me your real name and I can tell you if you're on the list or not.

I just checked my post-Gencon finances, and sadly it appears that I won't be able to make Tacticon this year. However, we're already making early plans to attend and run games at GengisCon in February.

Bummer. Oh well, we'll try to have fun without you.

    Catch you next time,

The Firefly-esque game was a lot of fun! There were a few minor bits of wonkiness, but I think everyone enjoyed it.

I was a little surprised that the captain, a veteran of the war, was only a 40+40 character. But it all worked out. Now, if only I could manage the tongue-twisting Chinese phrases...

I didn't even try ... My brother took several semesters of Chinese and man - one little mess up and you just said Horse instead of Mother. Forget that noise.

It was a very cool game! (I found no wonkiness in the game .. but then I got to keep my guns )

    v.cool Bigdamnhero.

    Re: Tacticon, Denver (9/1-4)

[Sorry - I've been offline a lot, trying to catch up on all the things I blew off to get ready for the con.]

Thanks for the kind words! As the ref & writer, I'm forced to agree that there was some "wonkiness." I hadn't gotten to playtest this one all the way through - I was more worried about the Champions game, as it had way more powers & other moving parts. As a result, several things in the Firefly game didn't play out quite the way I'd expected. If I ever run it again, I'd do some heavy re-writing. Still, glad you guys enjoyed it! I sure had fun.

Oh BTW, all the characters were 85+45. I think you saw the 85 and assumed that was the total including disads.

Also BTW, Ghost-Angel, I checked: the mentalist DID have mind scan in addition to clairvoyance - I had just somehow left it off the character summary sheet I was using during the game.

    Thanks for keeping me honest...
