Someone at work just told me that Wizard's of the Coast is trying to buy out White Wolf. Has anyone heard anything about that or is this just plain not true?

Don't mind me, I'm out of touch
I looked around and I can find nothing about it, and I've got no kind of inside scoop... but I did find articles from two years ago about WW suing Sony for copyright infringement over that Underworld movie. What ever came of that?
WW won some bucks.

I don't know of anything that would make me think WotC was buying anybody right now.
Life is forcing me out of gaming, but I'm gonna go kicking and screaming!
That rumor never dies. It may have been true when WotC was independant. However HASBRO has felt awfully burned (right or wrong) by the RPG industry.
Thats because HASBRO has no IDEA how to handle a gaming company. They expect exactly the same kind of investment and returns from WOTC that they get from their board games department, without realizing its a totally different animal. I have a very good friend who worked for WOTC who got laid off along with almost all their other RPG writers. As I predicted would happen at the time, HASBRO has pretty much killed WOTC's creative team.
Really! Great! Oh... wait... that's too bad.Originally Posted by input.jack

better than if WotC bought WW.
Roll d20, make a save vs. Angst
And that's Lord Roy the Ruthless to you!
"steady men, here come those leaping skeletons of doom!"
I have the Extram angst feat...can I use that now? I rolled a nat 20 for sadness check...

ok, you automatically confirm your angst check, double the duration of your angsting.Originally Posted by pinecone

"Yes! Morticia places it in the corner of her eye!"

Tear Drop of Infinite Sorrow: Minor Wonderous Item -
The Tear Drop of Infinite Sorrow adds +10 to all Angst checks, and a complementery +2 synergy bonus to will saves to resist spells with the "sadness" descriptor. The Tear Drop of Infinite Sorrow may not be worn with googles or glasses or lenses.

Maybe the guy mentioned in the original post had heard something - something very, very confused or distorted - about this.
"You dare enter my lair? I am Sapphiron, ancient servant of Malygos the Spell-Weaver! Explain yourselves!"
"Sorry we don't have time to chat, great wyrm. We've come to murder you and steal whatever artifacts you've hoarded over the centuries."
"Honesty, how refreshing. None may challenge Sapphiron and live!"

Wizards is not buying White Wolf. WotC is getting the rights again to publish Ravenloft and Gamma World books. That's it, end of story, move along, nothing to see.
In a perfect world, they wouldn't need a Superman!
-- Superman, Infinite Crisis #5
Ok. why?
Just wondering. Are they seeking a different publishing deal? That press release was kind of useless for "why" they're up to this.
