I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. None at all.

They suffered when the magic went away; and I'm sure other species did as well.
You're missing my point. The point is that Earth got a lot of alien tech which wouldn't have shut down due to the magic levels dropping, and yet for some reason it mysteriously did and all of the aliens on Earth went home for reasons unexplained.
The benefit is continuity. You can do time travel adventures and have information to base your encounters on. Your FF team can see what the AW world was like, or the TE, or the GF worlds. And you get to use all the same species you are familiar with. Too me that's interesting. I love continuity. When a comic company drops their continuity is the point where I stop paying attention to them.
I could easily do a cross-dimensional adventure instead, and there are plenty of things to fill in the gap which build on the modern day CU and don't suddenly pretend the past never existed.

Well, whether or not this is something that is well handled is something that it will be hard to get agreement on. For my part, when I read through the Hidden Lands decriptions of the abilities and history of the Empyreans, Lemurians, Shambala, etc, I don't think that the rise and fall of magic levels in the CU enhances the meta-story, and I don't think it's followed all that closely by the writers. Demon gave me the same impression. The Aliens and Alien Tech on Earth issue doesn't work for me either; the CU has Malvans wandering around major cities in the present day. That should have a lasting impact, Super Tech failure or no.

Personally, I think the CU works better if you ignore the magic rise and fall meta-plot, and work in other explanations for the post WWII proliferation of Supers. Getting rid of the Supers in time for Star Hero doesn't matter to me at all. I'd have gone the Dark Champions / Hudson City route, and just used the parts of the setting that didn't require Supers for the hard SF game, maybe with an alternate time line in Galactic Champions explaining the role of Supers in a future-history where they never vanished.

Plot Hole: VIPER Agents (and agents of similar organizations) commiting such pedestrian crimes as robbing banks and jewelry stores.

The Plug: First, you got to learn to crawl before you learn to walk. Bank and jewelry store hiests are optimal first assignments for newbies and allow the bosses to seperate the promising up-and-comers from the cronic numbskulls. Once a group of rookies shows that they can complete several robberies in a row without any significant F-ups or loose ends, you know they're ready to move on to bigger things.

Second, the newbies and their hiests make a good distraction for the heroes and the authories while the more experienced and competent members of the organization are pursuing more important objectives.

Profitability is also a factor, through the procedes of these hiests are usually peanuts compared to what other ops are bringing in.

A: It was in the evening. The autopsy started about 8:30 pm.
Q: And Mr. Edington was dead at the time, is that correct?
A: No, you stupid idiot, he was sitting on the table wondering why I was doing an autopsy!

Thats more of a genre thing than a plothole. Why isn't that being done in every superhero game, not just the Champions Universe.
