Woohoo!!! I scored a complete run (all six issues) of the 1986 Eclipse Comics Champions comics! You know, the ones with stats in the back for Flare, Icestar, Foxbat, et. al.

Ah. Now all you need is the first 8-10 issues of the ongoing series and you should have all the cheesy characters you need. After all, don't you want the Pre- Enemies Assembled stats to Exoskeleton Man? Or stats on seductive water elementals and the world's last vampire?
Congratulations, you poor bastard.
I had them all once. Part of what made me buy 4th edition when it came out.
Then, when I sold all my comics, I got rid of them all. Bought more gaming books.
No great loss, IMO.

Is there any interest in seeing a Champions line of comics? I have wanted to send in series ideas several times, but I keep coming back to the problem I have always had with the DC or Marvel RPGs.
It is almost impossible to play an established character without someone saying "There's no way [Spidey, Batman, etc] would do something like that." This is part of what makes Champions so great. No one can say that Captain Thunder wouldn't do something because (s)he is your character and (s)he does whatever you decide (s)he should.
BTW, I loved Foxbat in those books, before those comics I never thought much of a guy with a Ping Pong Ball Gun.
I would like to see a new Champions comic, but I would prefer to see is a comic called Champions Universe. CU could have 2-4 issue story arcs dealing with different heroes from the Champions Universe. Issues 1-3 could deal with a Champions plot; 4-5 could be a Victory story; 6-9 could be a Sentinels adventure. That way over the course of a year we get a chance to visualize many different heroes and villains from the Champions Universe.Originally posted by levi

It is not that I would not like to see just a Champions, or just a Sentinels, comic book, but I would like a chance to get a feel for all of the characters that make up the universe, and just a Champions comic would not allow that to any great extent. A Champions Universe comic is a way to test the waters, and if it proves popular enough then sub-series could expand from that.
Many people forget that a lot of the popular comics of today had heroes beginning in "theme" books in the past and then expanding to their own comics if they became popular. I think that method would still work.

I love Monolith's idea.
I don't think it will happen though. DoJ is probably reluctant to take such a risky venture right now.
Then again, they might surprise us.

Any Champions Universe-based comics might be really cool. There are a million stories in the naked - er, the CU, and plenty of fine characters who could carry a story. I don't expect it anytime soon, and if it came to a choice of where DoJ was focussing their energies, I'd prefer they stick with games.
Along that line: does anyone have a particular CU character or group that they'd like to see featured? For my part, although I'm not sure whether he'll be part of the new universe (Aargh! Jim Shooter flashback!), I've always wanted to see a title featuring Nuada of the Silver Hand, from the Kingdom of Champions sourcebook. I love mythic tie-ins and tragic characters, and Nuada had both going for him.
Anyone else have a preference?
My preference would be more villians. The heros are well and good to publish but how many GMs out there use the heroes as much as they use the villians? Its ok to have guest appearances and even super-team cooperation from time to time but ultimately most players I can think of want to do it without help from other heroes. In the campaign I play in run by Killer Shrike in MC we haven't even encountered the Champions. We've seen them on the SNN station and I'm sure they've watched our exploits (read screw-ups) with amusement if not interest. So I'd rather see more villians published just for more variety and ideas. Some of those plot hooks they give for the villians are pretty good.

I prefer team books over individual books, so if I had a choice I would rather see one of the 11 superhero teams done in a comic book rather than a solo hero. If I were going to put the teams in order of preference they would probably run:Originally posted by Lord Liaden

Sentinels
UNITY
Champions
Ravenswood Cadets
Justice Squadron
California Patrol
Nova
Bay Guardians
Freedom Patrol
Peacekeepers
4th unnamed team in New York
I also would not mind seeing a book dealing with StarForce and COMET from Canada either, just to add them to the list.
My top pick would either be a Sentinels or UNITY book though.

The advantage to publishing official CU heroes is that if the GM does not want to use them as heroes he can always rename the characters and make them villains. On the other hand, for those of us playing in a CU game, we cannot just easily rename Scorpia and assume it is Black Mask.Originally posted by WilyQuixote

A team book might be very cool...
I'd prefer the Champions... for a few reasons.
1) It might be useful to see how the DoJ (or at least the writer they hire) envisions their personalities in action.
2) Might endear the suckers to more fans....they are strangers to many still (Except Defender)
3) It would let us get a 'feel' for Millennium City as well... and frankly, I get a bit tired of NYC and California settings sometimes
Mmmm, or have the new Northern Shield form up, and see if the Canadian fans like it
However, if we were to do a solo comic.... It does seem that Dr Silverback and Kinetik have their share of fans on these boards
Why not try a whole comics line based on 4th Ed,Fuzion and 5th ed versions of the Champions universe like DC used to do before they created Crisis On Infinite Earths. You could have books based on all the game lines and characters.Originally posted by Lord Liaden
