Almost all of my favorite characters are heavy hitters/gods among men.

I like Slightly Above Average. Lends a bigger element of danger.

I like noteworthy and exceptional, myself.

That's not to say I ALWAYS need to play the 350-point character. I can be happy playing a 50-point character if she stands out enough at what she's good at.

Re: What's your preferred level of PC to play?

I like playing someone who is the best at a given thing, and pretty good at everything else, which I class as cinematic hero.

Even in supers, I rarely play the powerhouse, usually a sort of niche power type of thing - the only guy on the team with entangle, etc.

I like to be very good at one particular thing (e.g., banishing demons and defending against magic, unarmed combat expert, superstrong and invulnerable, healing) that makes me unique among the players. I don't like to generalize a whole lot... or overlap with others -- unless it really works well and fits the story.

I voted "noteworthy and exceptional", though one up and one down from that are sometimes my temporary preferences.

I've always been a fan of "street-level" to "city protector" levels of ability. Wherever that falls on the scale of the pool is what I like. Interesting poll, by the way. Have a great day.

Cinematic Hero mostly, but God among men works too (Hey playing James Bond can be fun).
You know how you play with a cat by dangling a peice of sting within his grasp, and then pull it away as he grabs for it? If the string isn't exciting and tempting the cat won't grab. But if you pull away early too many times and deny him too often, the cat gives up in frustration. The skill is in finding the sweet spot between those extremes where its fun for you and the cat.

    That's what a GM's job is.

    The Cinematic Hero for me...

That paints a pretty broad picture as well.

Re: What's your preferred level of PC to play?

For me, it doesn't matter what power level the character is. I had some fun with both very high-powered characters and some very low-powered characters. It all depends on how well the other players (including GM) and I get along and how much I'm into the setting and stuff.

As a GM, I prefer lower power games, say Slightly Above Average. It is easier to introduce elements of tension and fear, quicker to get characters built and easier to run combats with (lower speed ratings, etc).

Re: What's your preferred level of PC to play?

I think it's possible to add tension and danger at any level, since the threats are proportional if the GM is doing his job. However, the God among Men does tend to disallow an Agent really ruining your day, even with a lucky shot. Unless someone wants to pull out an Ultimate Nullifier (oooh, that'd be a heck of a power to define, wouldn't it?)
Cinematic Hero seems to best as you can tailor your character to be very dangerous or enough of a generalist to be able to compete "street-level" without being a 400-pound gorilla.

Re: What's your preferred level of PC to play?

I went with cinematic hero. Maybe its too many 1st Level D&D characters, but I don't like playing characters that cringe everytime something happens and fear a rat attacking them. I enjoy the action and having a certain level of immunity, but still need to be careful in some situations (hence not God amoung men).
First in my class here at MIT / Got skills, I’m a champion at D&D / MC Escher - that’s my favorite MC / Keep your 40, I’ll just have an Earl Grey tea
Only question I / Ever thought was hard / Was do I like Kirk / Or do I like Picard
Think I’m just too white and nerdy
