    Question Your favorite Archetype examples in super hero comics

    Okay, the Archetypes in Champions, at least according to the 5th Ed books are:
    Brick, Energy Projector, Gadgeteer, Martial Artist, Mentalist, Metamorph, Mystic, Patriot, Powered Armor, Speedster, Weapons Master

    So, going with this, what examples in comic books of such would be your favorites? One or two max for each please.

    Re: Your favorite Archetype examples in super hero comics

    Given as Marvel, DC

    Brick = Hulk or Thing, Mammoth (Everyone else is too diversified)
    Energy Projector = Human Torch, Fire
    Gadgeteer = Forge, Gizmo
    Martial Artist = Shang-Chi, Bronze Tiger
    Mentalist = Professor X, Saturn Girl
    Metamorph = Sandman, Clayface
    Mystic = Doctor Strange, Doctor Fate
    Patriot = Captain America, Uncle Sam
    Powered Armor = Iron Man, Steel
    Speedster = Quicksilver, Flash
    Weapons Master = Taskmaster or Bullseye, Deathstroke

    In all cases, I have tried to use examples which are purest. In other words, Superman has too many other powers to be the archetypal Brick, Batman too many other abilities to be the archetypal Martial Artist.

    Funny that neither made the big list. Other notable absences are Thor, Wonder Woman, Half the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man and most of the X-Men.

    Re: Your favorite Archetype examples in super hero comics

    Stealing Keith's format (and apparently several of his answers):

    Brick = Hulk, Thing
    Energy Projector = Human Torch, Cyclops
    Gadgeteer = Mr Fantastic, Forge
    Mentalist = White Queen, Phoenix II (Rachel Summers...er Grey now...)
    Metamorph = Mystique, Mr Fantastic (yes, I know I listed him twce. I like the FF damn it!)
    Speedster = Nightcrawler, Flash

    Patriot isn't an archtype in my mind. It's just a mental state... hmm, I think that came out wrong... bah, I'll let it stand...

    Similarly, Mystic and Power armor are not arctypes so much as power Origins. Gadgeteer is in a similar boat really...

    Patriot = Captain America
    Mystic = Doctor Strange, Nico "Sister Grimm" Minoru
    Powered Armor = Iron Man...um... I don't think I like any other power armor users... hell, I don't even like Iron Man that much....

    Also, I consider Martial Artists and Weapon Master to be pretty much the same damn thing. Doesn't help that most weapon masters are excellent unarmed combatants and most martial artists use at least one signature weapon extremely well. However, I'll divide them up here for the sake of the poll:

    Martial Artist= Daredevil, Captain America (yep, I like him a lot too)
    Weapons Master = Hawkeye, Bullseye

    Wonder Woman is one of my favorite characters, but I really can't fit her into just one or two categories. She's a Brick, Martial Artist, Weapon Master, Speedster, Mentalist. Clark's a Brick, Speedster, Energy Projector, Patriot. Bruce is mainly a Gadgeteer, Martial Artist with a little Weapon Master and Power Armor thrown in when the story demands it. Oh, and he's a Mentalist too, cause you NEED psychic powers to pull of some of the stuff he does

    HERO needs a 'paragon' archetype.

    Brick - The Thing. (Are there any others? )
    Energy Projector - Cyclops, Human Torch
    Gadgeteer - Forge
    Martial Artist - Spider-Man (I know it's stretching a bit, but I'm not a big MArts person)
    Mentalist - Martian Manhunter
    Metamorph - Tough, hard to narrow down...I'll say the Metal Men
    Mystic - Dr. Strange
    Patriot - Captain America
    Powered Armor - Rocket Red (Apokolips armor)
    Speedster - The Flash (Jay, Barry, or Wally)
    Weapons Master - Green Arrow
    Mrs. White: I, too, am being blackmailed for something I didn't do.
    Mr. Green: Me too.
    Colonel Mustard: And me.
    Miss Scarlet: Not me.
    Wadsworth: You're not being blackmailed?
    Miss Scarlet: Oh, I'm being blackmailed all right, but I did what I'm being blackmailed for.

    Brick - Mon-el, Superman - I never got into the "bulky bricks" like Hulk or Thing
    Energy Projector - Wildfire, Dazzler
    Gadgeteer - Brainiac 5, Cyborg
    Martial Artist - Karate Kid, Nightwing, Iron Fist
    Mentalist- Saturn Girl, John Jonzz
    Metamorph- Chameleon Boy, John jonzz, Mimic (Exiles)
    Mystic- White Witch, Dr Fate, Zuriel
    Patriot- Superman, Captain America
    Powered Armor- Rocket Red, Iron Man
    Speedster- Flash, Impusle
    Weapons Master - Deathstroke. Can't think of any other characters in this catagory I really like (both the archers generally annoy me).

    I'm sure everyone can tell what my favorite superteam is.

    You know how you play with a cat by dangling a peice of sting within his grasp, and then pull it away as he grabs for it? If the string isn't exciting and tempting the cat won't grab. But if you pull away early too many times and deny him too often, the cat gives up in frustration. The skill is in finding the sweet spot between those extremes where its fun for you and the cat.

    That's what a GM's job is.

    That line up would make one heckuva comic. Nice choices.

    Re: Your favorite Archetype examples in super hero comics

    I know you said "superhero comics", but I'm going to take a slightly different take.

    Brick--Bean Bandit (not a super-level character, but the most impressive relative to his setting)
    Energy Projector--Lina Inverse
    Gadgeteer--Boy Detective Narutaki, Skuld
    Martial Artist--Alita (also brick and speedster, really)
    Mentalist--Tetsuo Shima, Legato Bluesummers
    Metamorph--Shin (Space Pirate Mito)
    Mystic--Lina Inverse, Belldandy
    Powered Armor--the Knight Sabers
    Weapons Master--Goury Gabriev, Vash the Stampede, Manji, Jubei

    I can't seem to think of any patriot or speedster types from anime/manga

    Mystic: Drs. Strange and Fate
    Patriot: Captain America and Superman
    Powered Armor: Iron Man, Rocket Red
    Speedster: Can it be more obvious than Flash and Quicksilver?
    Weapons Master: Again, gotta cop out. Green Arrow and Hawkeye

    *Night Thrasher's armor wasn't powered, per se; it had electronic systems, but it didn't enhance his strength or agility like Iron Man armor does. At least, the last time I saw it.

    I know Alita (I like those books), I know I've heard the name Vash, but don't know what manga he belongs too. Every other name on your list was someone I had never heard of.

    Sorry.
