Online UNTIL SUPERPOWERS DATABASE Page Now Available!

Howdy, folx! Just wanted to let you know that the online supplement ("web enhancement," if you like) to The UNTIL Superpowers Database is now up and running at:

    http://herogame.dans.cust.servlets.net/USPD/

Ben will be adding a link from the homepage soon.

The Online USPD page has more powers that couldn't fit in the book (or that I thought of too late). Even better, you can add to it! The "Contribute" part of the page tells you how you can submit a power for the Online USPD and share your cleverness and insight with Herodom Assembled.

    Enjoy!

    This is really cool, Steve.

BUT... you knew there was going to be a but.

Would it be possible to get the "official" portion of the DB (i.e., what you wrote and couldn't fit in the USPD) in a format that I can download in a single file and print out?

I wouldn't really call that "official." It's just some stuff I noodled around with or that didn't fit in the allotted page space despite Andy's layout wizardry.

Do you have a word processing program that allows you to save material in different formats? If so, you could try what I did just last night: I dragged my cursor across the area of text from each Database webpage that I wanted to save to highlight it, copied that, and used my wordprocessor's "Paste Special" command to paste it as unformatted text. Came out pretty clean. I just kept doing that with each linked page until I had it all copied to one printable document, which I can now format to taste.

I do the exact same thing as Lord Liaden with the FAQ for a nice, double column 152 page Word document with a hypertext ToC. The only problem with that is that after updates, you either have to do the same thing all over again or scan through, find what is new, copy that/paste that/reformat that in order to keep it updated.

Or maybe someone has a better way to stay on top of the updates? ::hopeful look::

    LL and Publius,

I understand that I could DIY a compiled copy on my own, much like the nice fans who do up the FAQ. I was just hoping that DOJ would do it for me.

I just find the compiled PDF format a whole lot more useful than the piecemeal Web formats, particularly in the case of the FAQ (and I've made clear my dislike for the blue-n-pink-on-black format of the FAQ before; sorry, Ben).

It also seems kind of silly to me to have Ben slaving away to HTML-ify a .doc file written by Stveve just to have fans spend time turing it back into a .doc or PDF file. Be like Evil WotC(tm) and just give me the PDF/.doc file to begin with.

There is usually a downloadable PDF of each new FAQ posted fairly soon after the updated version is put up on the webpage, prepared by one or another generous and industrious Hero fan (with due credit, of course). The link to it can be found at the bottom of the box of links headed "The FAQs" on the introductory Rules Questions page.

Perhaps you hadn't noticed it, or maybe there's a reason why that doesn't work for you?

Nope. Noticed it, but it is a bit harder to reformat PDF files into Word than vice-versa. I try to condense the material as much as possible because it is already quite lengthy (which I appreciate let me tell you, support for the Hero System is amazing). This usually means that I am putting things into Word using a cut and paste method off the html. I was just looking for new tricks, you never know if you never ask

If Ben and/or Steve have no objections, I can start making the rules FAQ I put together for PDF format available in Word format too. I assemble it in Word before converting to PDF, so I'll already have a Word version anyway. (Heck, .RTF too... whatever people think is useful and Ben thinks doesn't hog too much server space.

I'm generally good with a PDF, though tiwould be nice to be able to change the margins (which I like wider for 3-hole punching). You go, Derek!
