Comics that I miss.

Hiya,
Just thought I would bring up some of the comic books that I used to like alot but have been cancelled.

StarMan: I loved this one, Jack Knight was a great hero, very human and real. I liked the whole retro feel of it, read the whole Grand Gugnoil storyline and I loved the writing and artwork.

HitMan: Just to show how varied my taste are. This was to me a very funny comic in a dark style. Tommy Mohnagan had alot of personality and I liked the whole 'I only kill criminals', morale code he had.

Peter Cannon, Thunderbolt: Yeah, It was short-lived, but I thought it had alot of potential. I liked not only the main character but the supporting cast was well done IMO.

ROM Spaceknight: Just plain cool. ROM kicked ***, I mean how can you not like a cyborg that fights shapeshifting aliens that want to take over the world. Then when we banishes them to limbo they appear to be disintegrat-ed, so that it looks like ROM is killing people. That whole angst thing was great.

So what comics do you guys miss?

Rom was kinda silly, but then so am I. I had nearly every issue.

The original Marvel Team up (Last version just didn't do it for me).

The original What If? was great. I forgot how much fun it was until the recent What If threads.

I'd like to see The Eternals, with the original Kirby flavoring.

Last year's Thanos series was my favorite (outside of Astonishing Xmen).

I knew they had plans to, but I'm currently still in my anti-comic jihad against bad comics. But it occurs to me that buying no comics will just hurt the good ones. So I might break down and go check it out.

So what comics do you guys miss?

I remember ROM, I only ever had a few issues of it but they were some awesome stuff. I actually recall one issue where Galactus, lead by Terrax, tried to eat Galadorn. Terrax took on all the Spaceknights at once and two, who's names I forget, died during the fight.

Anyway the Spaceknights manage to defeat Terrax in a hard fight while ROM goes up to Galactus' ship and destroys a memorial he had of planets that he'd eaten. ROM and Galactus face off and ROM manages to save Galadorn....by siccing Galactus on the Dire Wraith homeworld!

Add my voice to the Chorus for ROM, it was "The Day the Earth stood still" meets Green Lantern Corp.

I also miss "The Man called Nova"... both 70s and 90's version.

Guess I enjoy space faring heroes.

Related to the Nova comic, the first run of New Warriors was fanastic use of some other wise under used characters. There was a great synergy. Of course, later Marvel would drop the ball on them utterly. So very very sad.

Nomad, by Fabian took Jack Monroe and made him truly live up to the name. Sure, he had Baby Bucky strapped to his back as he went through America trying to do the right thing... even if he wasn't always sure what the right thing was, but it was some of the best character development I'd seen.
It makes what happened to Jack in Brubaker's excellent run all the sadder.

The "Weirdness Magnet" aspect was brilliant. The Blue Devil comic didn't wrestle with coinicidences and strange occurances... it embraced them!
BD was loads of fun, and had a heart as big as the Hollywood sign.



Since I'm waxing nostalgic, I'd like to see a Dr. Strange solo series take off again that embraces the whacky dual world of mundane and magic he lives in.
I hear JMS did a good version with his limited series, but I didn't get my hands on it.

ME TOO!! I totally forgot the New Universe. Those came out shortly after I finished reading the Wild Card series IIRC. I saw them as being in the same vein as the series. Collected them all for a while.

re: the New Universe -- some of the ancillary comics had good characters and good premises, but sadly Marvel killed their golden goose by making Star Brand an essential part of the entire metaplot and reason for being, and while there have been suckier and less likeable characters than him, there ain't been many.

Oh God, I forgot to list Meridian. One of the most wonderful stories I ever read (even if it did kill most of my desire to continue RP'ing one of my fave characters)(*), and they had to rush it to a half-assed 'stopping point' (it was nowhere near complete enough to be called a proper ending) in a few issues because that's how much lead notice they had that CrossGen was goin' down... with tons of story left yet to tell.

In my fantasy world, Disney turns the sucker into an animated series but has Studio Ghibli do everything creative with it, and just handles distribution. I know, dreaming, me.





(*) Watching how they wrote Sephie gave me an inferiority attack re: playing Starguard.
