You kiddin'? Lucha Libre is like every genre rolled into one!

You have masked heroes, martial arts, monsters, criminal masterminds, Nazis, vampires, mad scientists... it's got everything! If done right, the book should be hilarious just to read! And certainly would be a genre/setting unlike anyone else's (is anyone else doing a masked wrestler RPG?).

That's also my take on the subject - and I'm glad Hero's doing one oddball book. It's healthy for a company to take an occasional risk for passion's sake.

And if you doubt it's a viable genre, go watch Angel's "The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinqo" for a good introduction.

Good lord, people. Some of you take this stuff so personally. There are also people who are into Lucha Libre and think this will be a cool book.

If you're not interested in it, you don't have to buy it. But you also don't have to crap on it...
Ok, let's say that I like Hero so much that I'm disappointed to see it branch out in directions that I'm rather perplexed they will be successful enough (of course, I might be wrong) and where I really can't bring myself to support the effort with my cash, willing as I would be to give the house all the support I can. Steve is perfectly free to do Soap Opera Hero. Just don't complain to me when and if Hero books don't sell enough in that case, when they could instead be doing Villainy Amok II . In the case I'm wrong about this book, fine. I wish nothing but strong and enduring success for Hero Games. But in that case, I really want for Hong Kong Hero.

The only wrestling-centered RPG sourcebook I ever saw worth significant interest was the Aberrant sourcebook detailing the wrestling-like superpowered combat sport in that setting, and it was a very small and cheap sourcebook, only useful for the very sporadic tongue-in-cheek session, where our usual super-mercenaries and metahuman separatist revolutionaries did a once-in-a-while stint. An hero book done on the same level, possibly a PDF, I would easily see the merit. But a whole new genre sourcebook, on the same level as Post-Apocalyptic, Fantasy, or Pulp, well, I'm genuinely puzzled about the scope of the thing Something like Anime Hero, maybe, I would better see point of the thing.

Sorry if I sounded like crapping on stuff other people may fancy. Please take my apologies

Yeah. I agree. My first reaction was "That is just really cool." Then "I hope it sells". I know I'll be getting it.
You know how you play with a cat by dangling a peice of sting within his grasp, and then pull it away as he grabs for it? If the string isn't exciting and tempting the cat won't grab. But if you pull away early too many times and deny him too often, the cat gives up in frustration. The skill is in finding the sweet spot between those extremes where its fun for you and the cat.

Good Lord, no. We can't afford the whole Hero Games staff passing out from exaustion and body wasting due to excessive "research"

This is pretty much my take on the matter too. If folks reread my post you'll note that I didn't crap on the idea of LLH... I just know that I have ZERO interest in the subject. I did get a bit hostile at the prospect of cool new rules being introduced in it, as that's a big pet peeve of mine. Has been since the 80's. I consider it a somewhat unethical way of selling books. Thankfully, DoJ (and previous Hero publishers) have been pretty good about putting good rules into multiple books.

Hopefully, by the time Luchre Libra Hero really hits the production process, DoJ will have grabbed ahold of a big enough slice of marketshare to be able to afford to keep more of the popular books in their line in print (Sidekick, Hardback Pulp Hero) at any particular time.
There are stories of faeries and banshees and the walking dead; but "the worst of them all," is the Fool of Forth, the Amadan-na-Briona, he whose stroke is, as death, incurable.
As to the fool in this world, the pity for him is mingled with some awe, for who knows what windows may have been opened to those who are under the moon's spell, who do not give in to our limitations, are not "bound by reason to the wheel."

You know ... the more I think about it, the more I realize I really really want Lucha Libre Hero.

That needs to be bumped up the schedule a bit I think.

I mean.. .think about it... Post Apocalyptic Hero vs Lucha Libre Hero? Anyone can blow up the earth and end civilization, but to be a Mexican Wrestler by day and a world-saving hero by night? THAT takes talent.

    Re: The 2007 Release Schedule

2007 looks like a good year. Except for the fiction I'm interested in pretty much everything, even the Champions stuff looks good.

IMO the best are Fantasy City, Magic Items, and Gamma Hero!

Again, the dissapointments are no Horror Hero or Western Hero -- two gaping genre holes in a universal system.

Villains, Vandals, And Vermin: good, more character write-ups -- the heart of Hero system books.

Pulp Resource Guide: pulp is doing well keep on supporting it.

Enchanted Items: Fantasy Magic items -- awesome! It should be a big one judging by the source material and the massive threads from the old boards.

    The Ultimate Energy Projector: great.

Champions Of The North: Canada -- Beauty!!

Danger Zones: good to have more Dark Champions stuff.

Aarn: City Of Adventure: a Fantasy Hero city -- great! About time that a non-champions city is detailed!

Post-Apocalyptic Hero: ahh, Gamma-irradiated goodness, bask in the purifying glory!!

Lucha Libre Hero: sounds pretty cool, but would be better as a Wrasslin' Hero with a lot of information on Wrasslin' in general to make it more widely appealing.

Lands Of Mystery: excellent, good to see Aaron Allston back in the Hero fold.

Crews, Cops, And Cabals: Organization books are good.

Scourges Of The Galaxy: Star Hero and character write-ups, great!

    Fiction: Not really interested.

Golden & Silver Age Hero: those would be interesting.

I have obvious reasons for wanting an updated Champions Of The North sourcebook, and I'm delighted that my absolute first choice for writing such a book got the nod.

There are always folks who get their feathers ruffled by negative opinions. IMO negative criticism that amounts to 'this product is a waste of my money' needs to be heard just as much as "Wow, I think Lucha Libre (which I love to watch just have no interest in a whole RPG resource book about the subject) is cool. Great idea, HERO!".

You have nothing to apologize for and it is VERY unfortunate that you've been made to feel as if you had to, sir.

Honestly, Derek, this post makes it look like you're the only one taking things 'personally'.

See BobGreenwade's, Susano's, and GestaltBennie's posts - far more appropriate responses to Wanderer's negative criticism in my opinion.
