Well as I recall, El Santo's mask was supposed to be blessed/enchanted to protect him from the negative effects of wrestling supernatural creatures, so that he was able to survive the curses of vampirism and lychanthropy when he had to wrestle such creatures. Not sure where I read that, but I belive that's the explanation.

That or Mexico automatically inflicts the vulnerability X2 BODY and STUN when facing masked luchadores, upon all monsters that pass it's borders.

Well, that’s how it worked in the movie, anyhow.
Which is not to say that wrestling maneuvers aren't surprisingly effective against the undead in most lucha movies. Kind of a similar theory to Buffy, actually- there are few problems, supernatural or otherwise, that can't be solved by an atomic neck-drop. dw

Doesn't just work on supernatural monsters either, also effects space aliens, killer robots and what not as well.

Am I the only one who thinks the Trimestgerus Council [I horribly misspelled that I know] really needs to have a luchador or three working for them? Why waste time on those spells and counter spells when you can get some burly luchadors to dropkick and plancha those evil wizards into oblivion?

Well, El Espectro is in Champions Universe. I'm sure the TC have his number... dw

They better be transferring him all over the world too, judging by the mystic badness going on. Heck, they better scrape up the resources and buy an entire lucha fed, they're gonna need em.

At last a movie concept I'd pay to go see! Write that script and send it to Hollywood.

Okay, when I run that Mystic Champions game, he's guest-starring when I want to break away from serious plots to something goofy and campy.

You know ... I'm suddenly getting this image of Foxbat trying to pull off the Luchador stuff. "But I've got the mask, why isn't it WORKING??!!"

Hell when I wanna create a Silver Age superteam for my camaign [or if I simply use the Silver Age version of the Justice Squadron from Champions] I am SO adding a luchador! I mean really when you look at all the stuff El Santo did in his movies and all the villains he defeated, he makes Batman look phenomonally wussy by comparison.

Someone described him as 'Doctor Fate meets El Santo', which just sounds too weird for words. Hmm, maybe we could get his stats in the Lucha Hero book? :gives pleading look:

As HERO's premier luchador he dang well oughta be in the Lucha Hero book, in my opinion. Perhaps he has some Champions of Justice of his own? *matches Fenris' pleading look*

El Espectro will definitely be in the book. He's been a PC of mine for a decade now. You'll also almost certainly see Caveman Cortez, Jason's Golden Age wrestling detective, and probably a dozen more. dw

    *sigh*

Why couldn't I have known all of this while Ninja Hero was being developed?
