    Question download problem

Ok I admit. I am not the most computer-inclined person. I downloaded hero designer, however I am unable to run the setup due to WindowsXP being unable to open the file. Suggestions??

Check the set up file's extension. XP has a tendancy to do one of two things.

    1) Remove any extension. Supposedly it's a security issue. Without an extension, the program won't run automatically, and hence, infect your computer with nasty Trojan Horses. In this case the file would be Setup, not Setup.exe.

    2) Adding a .zip to the end of the extension. For some reason, XP likes associating things with Winzip when you download things. In this case you'd see Setup.exe.zip. And that won't run right either.

So, check to make sure that you're running Setup.exe.

Just to clarify something I see people mentioning over and over. XP doesn't associate anything to Winzip. It actually includes compression software in it's design. It has its on compression/decompression software. However, if you do install WinZip (which would be redundant) it will use it instead. Whenever downloading anything please pay attention to the File Type: box usually located at the bottom of the download window. It will indicate the extension that will be used. Simply always choose All Files (*.*) and you should be fine. As a computer teacher I see too many people not reading what the screen shows them. People tend to make assumptions, and you know what they say about those... Now back to your regular programming...

I do this with Win 98 and it still adds .zip to the end of the file.
An old saying goes "There are three boxes that are the citizens response to the actions of the Government. Soap, Ballot, Bullet. Use as needed and in order."

Hmmm... never does that on any of my OSs... or browser versions. So you are saying that it overrides the default extension with zip no matter what you select as the file type? Interesting... I don't know what to say. This is one of those cases where i would have to watch your steps to discover where the problem is. Sorry I can't be more help.
