    Star HERO "Toys"

I've been scrounging around the web looking for some cool programs. Since they are geared towards Star HERO, I thought I would post them directly here. All of the programs are freely available.

StarGen is used to create solar systems. Very simular to HERO's sector creator, in that it outputs to HTML. I think the output is a little cleaner than Sector Generator.

PlanetGen is used to create fractal world maps and has the ability to display those maps on a globe.

It's Full of Stars is a 3d star mapping program. It is a little dated and doesn't have any of the whiz bang features of Astrosynthesis, but a nice program for somebody on a budget.

Celestia allows you to virtually travel around the galaxy and see different points of interest. Has several add-ons that can be downloaded.

There was another program that I used to have that let you see the night sky from any place on Earth, but I couldn't remember the name of it. Any ideas?

    Not sure, maybe StarStrider
    http://www.starstrider.com/
    Or maybe Project Astrofly
    http://www.anumajor.com/astrofly/

Let me put in another plug for my favorite: AstroSynthesis
    http://www.nbos.com/products/astro/astro.htm

Note that these are not free, but you do get a lot of bang for your buck.

Found it. Stellarium. A nice piece of freeware, cross-platform planetarium software.

After playing with the demo a little, I'm almost sold on this product as well. Wow!
