OK... mystery solved, and once again Microsoft SUCKS!
The fault is with IE version 7 which is the Beta version installed in Windows Vista RC1. I installed Firefox and redownloaded the file from the other forum, and viola everthing works.Apparently IE7 doesn'y like zip files. They appear to download properly but the files themselves are corrupted. I verified this by downloading several zip files from several sites and got the same results regardless.
Thanks for your help.

Someone mind pointing me in the direction of all these cool files, I also need a version of the dice roller that works better - mine seems broken in many places.
And, I commisioned a friend of mine, Doug Smith, to do some artwork of my character at the Anime Con this weekend, I'll upload the image a little later on.

Also in the Other Software and Online Resources forum, there is a thread titled OpenRPG for the Hery System? Inside that thread are both the latest dieroller (page 4 or so) and the initiative tracker (last page). If you misplaced the e-mail that Starwolf sent, you can find them in there.
While playing around with macros, I learned that you can designate a ? for the number of dice for damage. By using the ? designator [?d6.hk()] or [?d6.n()] plus a hit location command [3d6.hl()] in one line, I can keep the pace up by not having to type in anything but the variable. I've also added in the initiative commands (/hstart and /hgo) into the macros. Assuming the initiative tracker works with multiple players, then combat duration may well decrease by a few percentage points.
Looking forward to the pic. Art is so important.
Here's some eye candy for you. Comes from a modification to X3: Reunion
going to use it to make a counter for ORPG too. JPG format for that? What size is best in ORPG?
Artist: Doug Smith; Anime style. (this is a midres scan of the image, the original is sitting on my desk awaiting a frame)
He's friend of mine I see maybe twice a year at conventions. Nice guy, I like his style over most others. I game him the description on the character sheet, told him to put her in a flight suit and the rest is all him.
When/If I get money I'm going to get Storn to do a rendition of the character to get his style as well.
I'm also going to render the character myself eventually; but that i'd like to do a more full scene for so it will have to wait for me to find a decent 3D space fighter to go with it; so Nolgroth, of all those X3 images which is the closest to a UPF fighter?

The icon needs to be 60x60. I would recommed Token Tool, it lets you drag and drop then uses a movable/scalable target reticle to select the area to iconize. It then exports the icon as a png which is what Nol needs for the mini. I'll e-mail you a copy.
Would you mind if I took a stab at a posable 3d image of Sam based on the drawing done by your friend?

Oh you would ask that wouldn't you. Now I have to debate between "real world" applicability (which I'm trying to at least nod in the general direction of) and really cool. I'm thinking the Deathwish squadron would go sleek and sexy so try this one.
Interesting... says a lot about my mindset, I think... but, the only one of those ships I could see Milo on was this one. It looks the most like a heavy freighter.

Actually that's my favorite ship of the lot and no, it's not a freighter. It's a dreadnought battleship. In the ship classes in the game, it is simply more powerful than anything else and about twice as long to boot. I believe it is somewhere in the 2.5 km length range. Extremely expensive and I haven't yet run into one while zipping around in my fighters.
Capital ships are great eye candy and are useful to deploy with small fleets, but are a bear to use as fly around ships. I prefer a good Heavy Fighter to a cap ship.
Keep in mind that all of these ships are from a mod that extends the gameplay. Er, not that it matters except as eye candy. Maybe I can find a link to the "official" ships, which I tend to like just as well. The only thing it may do is "share my vision" of what the ships look like.

My favorite looking fighter in the official game.

A large collection of pics from the game.
And that will be enough of that. It's a cool game and I love to tool around, blowing up pirates and hostile aliens, but other than the aesthetics, it doesn't have much to do with us and our game. Inspires me when the energy flow is at low ebb.

I know there's gotta be someone in this group who can help me out with my little problem. Here's the situation...
I am trying to design a banner logo image for my new logbook website. I have put it all together in MS Word (using Word Art to get the font, style, and gradient fill pattern I like), then I exported it as a .JPG file.
When I used that image in my test site, it had a white background all around the letters. "Simple enough", says I to me. "I'll just pop it into GIMP and set the background color to transparent!"
Well, it worked... kinda sorta.
The majority of the background has been rendered transparent. However, there is a one- or two-pixel border around each letter that looks a little off. Also, the letters have distinct jagged edges.
All I want is nice crisp letters with clean-edges. I could probably do it by setting the font and style in the HTML (or, maybe, in a CSS file), but I don't think I could get this fill pattern. And, I can't be sure that my viewers would have the proper font installed.
You can probably tell that it has been quite a while since I tried to do any web design work. I've been informed that HTML has gone through three revisions since my last attempt, and I'm picking my way through a primer on CSS.
I'm not sure I've explained the situation well enough to get a proper answer, but I've got all the raw files that I've been working with (including the font file), and I'll be ecstatic to answer any questions that might lead to a solution.
Thanks for listening.
