    Just a heads up, James!

    Now that I have all of the information for Mike Maloney, I'm going to redo his sheet and the ORPG node. As with Milo, this won't be anything major... just tightening things up.

    By the way, did anyone ever get around to making complete instructions and/or a tutorial for using the HERO Die Roller? I know it can do some things that I haven't used, just because I don't know all the little syntax rules.

    Gordon, I'll update the link to Sam's info on my site (which I haven't touched in about 2 weeks, dammitall).

    Later!

    I haven't done a tutorial, but I would be glad to type one up and send it to you just as soon as I get done reading those chat logs you sent me...

    Oh wait I don't have any chat logs yet...

    J/K I will type something up and get it to you tomorrow.

    Have you checked your email recently? I sent them over a week ago... right after that message where I asked you what I was supposed to send you.

    I'll .zip 'em up and send them again.

    Cool. Looking forward to it.

    By the way, did anyone ever get around to making complete instructions and/or a tutorial for using the HERO Die Roller? I know it can do some things that I haven't used, just because I don't know all the little syntax rules.
    The ones I use the most are;
    [3d6.sk(?,?)] Standard skill roll where both the skill roll value and the modifier can be entered. you can substitute a number for the question marks.

    [3d6.cv(?,?)] Combat roll where both the OCV and modifier can be entered. As with the general purpose skill roll, numbers can be used in place of the question marks.

    [?d6.n()] Normal damage roll where the number of dice can be entered.

    [?d6.hk()] Killing damage roll

    [3d6.hl()] Hit location roll.
    What I know you can do is set the order of dice to ascending or descending. I don't rightly remember how, but that is useful for explosion or reduced by range effects.

    I would also like to know if some of the alternate Hit Location rolls (2d6+1 for example) are supported in the die roller.

    There are probably a dozen more options, but those are my personal favorites.

    Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign

    Here ya go... this is a compilation of my own work and stuff posted by both Nolgroth and Heroman.

    Open RPG Hero dice roller tutorial
    Note all actual syntax is typed in bold in this tutorial to make it easy to pick out.

    Skill Roller, example [3d6.sk(11,0)]
    Make a Skill roll. The first number of the two modifiers is the rating in the skill, 11 meaning 11 or less. The second number is any penalty or bonus you have for the roll. A positive number is a bonus, a negative number is a penalty. As with many Hero system rolls, the only die choice that makes sense is 3d6

    To-hit roller, example [3d6.cv(5,1)]
    Make a to-hit roll. The first modifier is your Combat Value. The second number is any penalty or bonus you have for the roll. A bonus is positive, and a penalty is negative. Again, the only roll that is sensible is 3d6. The result of the roll is the the highest Defensive Combat Value that can be hit with that roll.

    Killing damage roller, example [(1d6+1d6/2).k(0)]
    [3d6.k(0)] returns 3d6 killing, including stun. It rolls the 1d6-1 stun, modified by 0. [3d6.k(1)] would be the same, but factors in a +1 stun multiplier.

    Normal damage roller, example [(5d6+1d6/2).n()]
    Make a damage roll for Normal damage. Results show body and stun totals. No modifiers exist. Only sensible for d6 values.

    Hit Location roller, example [3d6.hl()]
    Roll on the hit location chart. Results show the location hit (including left or right side) and multipliers to damage when hitting that location. No modifiers exist. Contributed by Heroman

    Hit locations rolls other than the standard 3d6 are supported for placed shots. So for example you could use the notation [(2d6+1).hl()] to get a location from 3 to 13, or you could use the notation [(1d1+5).hl()] to get an exact location of 6.

    Basic Killing damage roller, example [2d6.hk()]
    Rolls killing without a stun multiplier for ease of use with the Hit Location roller mentioned above. No modifiers exist. Contributed by Heroman

    Note that to add included dice modifiers like 3d6+1 or 5d6+1/2d6 you must surround base dice and the adder with parenthesis. Heroman added a dice adder for half dice on normal damage rolls only. The syntax is [5d6.nh()]

    To roll descending dice the syntax is [3d6.descending().n()] or [3d6.descending().hk()]

    Any number in any of the syntax examples above can be replaced with a ? wildcard. The roller will then prompt you for a number to fill in the missing value. This is useful if you want to set up permanent scripts. Nolgroth suggests setting the macros for function keys F5 through F8 as follows. In ORPG on the menu bar click the OpenRPG dropdown and select settings. In settings select the Macro tab. In the macro tab enter the following text in bold then click ok when done.

    F5 = [3d6.sk(?,?)]

    F6 = [3d6.cv(?,?)]

    F7 = [?d6.n()] [3d6.hl()]

    F8 = [?d6.hk()] [3d6.hl()]

    Dice roller help, [3d6.help()] to give a list of hero die commands (note: it is like a regular die roller, so will go across in chat unless you whisper it to yourself).

    In addition to the scripts setup in the macros you can enter dice scripts in the die roller node created by the Hero Designer to ORPG export template or included in the stand alone nodes we have created for manual character entry. To edit the dice roller expand the character node by clicking the little plus sign next to the character name. Inside you will find a tabber node named Dice. Right click the Dice tabber and select Design from the popup menu. Once in design mode you can either edit the dice scripts that are already there or add new ones. You can also use HTML tags in your dice scripts to dress them up and make them easier to read, for example…

    <b>Stealth</b> [3d6.sk(12,0)]

    Produces

    Stealth [3d6.sk(12,0)] -> [6,2,5] – 0 = (13) vs 12 or less failure by -1

    You can also enter several dice rolls on the same line so for example in the Dice tabber if you add a scropt that reads…

    <b><i>Punch:</i></b> [3d6.cv(6,?)], <b>Damage:</b>[4d6.n()] <b>Hit Location:</b>[3d6.hl()]

    Which produces…

    Punch: [3d6.cv(6,0)] -> [1,3,4] = (8) with a CV of 6 and a modifier of 0 hits up to DCV 9, Damage: [4d6.n()] -> [5,6,1,3] = (4) Body and (15) Stun, Hit Location: [3d6.hl()] -> [4,5,2] = (11) Location: Chest, Stunx: x3, NStun: x1, Bodyx: x1

    I hope this helps

    Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign

    It may take a while to enter this message. I keep having to re-establish a connection every few minutes.

    Just wanted to let you guys know that there is a possibility that I won't be online this Thursday. I'm still having problems with my cable service. This will be the third time this month that I've had to call tech support. Hopefully, the guy will actually fix the line this time instead of just slapping a bandage on it and hoping I'll go away.

    I'm beginning to suspect that there's something more going on than just squirrels. The first guy showed me a piece of gnawed cable, but the second guy didn't show me anything or say what he thought was the trouble. All he said was that he wouldn't be surprised if more people in this area were having the same trouble.

    Anyway, techie #3 is supposed to come out this Thursday morning. It remains to be seen whether he will do any good for me.

    The one bright spot in this whole thing is that the service rep I spoke to said he would issue a credit for the full month's service (or lack thereof). That's 50 bucks we don't have to worry about.

    Take care, guys (and Terrie!)
    Have a Merry Christmas!!

    Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign

    Belated Merry Christmas (or insert holiday of choice in place of Christmas) to everybody. Mine was surprisingly good, despite the absence of swag. I only worked about six hours on Christmas day and was able to do something all Christmassy to make my Mom feel good. She was really depressed that I couldn't make it for Christmas, so after I got off early, I packed up the family and headed to Carson City. Turned out to be a very pleasant evening of visiting with (almost) my whole immediate family (brothers and sisters with their kids - the extended family is so large that I constantly meet new relatives whenever I manage to get to a family reunion).

    Dale, I sincerely hope that your internet problems are fixed by game time. I always look forward to having the whole crew aboard and, though we will continue on, it just wouldn't be the same without you.

    Great looking tutorial Starwolf. Along with the post in the Other Software forum that includes the combined goodness of turn tracker, die roller and HD export all combined into one, you have really been the prophet of the HERO OpenRPG community. Others may have made the stuff, but you have really taken to being the "face man" of the project. Kudos to you.

    I don't know why, but this last week has been dragging by slowly. I've really missed the game and hanging out with y'all. I am so looking forward to Thursday now.

    See you (hopefully) all then.

    Re: Gemini Ascendant Campaign

    Oddly enough, I haven't had any problems for the last two days. With my luck, the repairman will be unable to find anything wrong. Then, it will die completely as soon as he pulls out of my driveway.

    I've studied the die roller docs that Starwolf provided and I've discovered a lot of things that I never knew it could do. I've integrated these new discoveries into my character sheets as needed, and things are looking a lot better.

    Unfortunately, during this process, I also discovered that I had been using Hero Designer improperly and, as a result, all of my characters have about a 6 point deficit in their xp. Since I couldn't figure out a way to rewrite them to get rid of that deficit, I've decided that my next 6xp on each will go to that deficit. I hope that's okay, James.

    Has anyone checked out the Professional Boxer Package Deal that I uploaded to the HD website? It's a lot more complete than the one in the books, and includes some maneuvers that a lot of folks never think of. My dad's a big boxing fan and I got a lot of the information from him.

    I decided to not include the "illegal" maneuvers... like secondary strikes with the elbow, hitting below the belt, headbutting, and the ever-popular earbiting.

    I'm also going to work up a Professional Wrestler package, and I'm accepting suggestions as to what maneuvers to include. Acting will, of course, be a required skill.

    See you all Thursday night (I hope)!

    The deficit can be paid off with XP. I have no idea how many of the Sci Fi games we actually played since the last XP award. Need to check that out.

    I haven't looked at the Hero Designer website beyond finding the export template for ORPG and downloading the latest HDv3.jar file that comes out. I'll swing over and take a look at it.

    I tried to download the latest HDv3 .jar file but I could not get it to load into HD . I will have to get with Starwolf and see if he can help me find the path to which it needs to follow for proper placement of the file. See ya'll thursday.

    When you look up the last time you gave us XP, don't suppose you also have written down how much you gave each of us? I just want to make sure I've got the right numbers.

    No. Which is strange because I usually post that sort of info to the Gemini Ascendant page. I think I posted XP to the chat session and I have no idea where that log is. If I had to guess, I'd Samantha had about three or four from that point.

    I just checked the website and November 02 started this story arc, so that is about right. This will be week three of the Pulp diversion, so it looks like six weeks of SciFi and three (counting this week) of Pulp. I suspect that there will be this last Pulp installment and one, maybe two more SciFi weeks before we hit the end of this arc.
