    Question Faster searches

Has anyone else marvelled at how much faster searches are on the new board? Is it because of the low post count or is the new software that much better?

I suspect it's a combination of three things:

    1. Fewer total posts to search through

    2. Better software (though this may not be having much effect...I'm not sure what database UBB used on the back end). vBulletin uses mySQL, which is made almost entirely for speed. It's limited in the SQL that it can handle, but what it can do, it does very fast.

    3. A better server. The new server that the site is now hosted on is no slouch when it comes to processor power and throughput. I've seen dramatic increases in my own sites (like Hero Central) which were moved to the same server.

I think it is probably a combination of both.

Ironcially, the site bogs down my computer. Probably has something to do with its pre-historic nature.

Almost certainly, since there's nothing different (content-wise) from the old site.
