    Exclamation Name the Hero Contest!

Being in the abbreviated month of February, the deadline for entries is only one week away!

Has everyone interested worked up their concepts for the Man in Black? Ben, how have the entries been so far this month?

BTW, Ben, I just noticed that last month's winner, "El Aguijon" ("The Sting"), is spelled "Aguilon" next to his picture on the Name the Hero page. Not a big deal, but I thought I should point it out to make sure the error doesn't make its way into his DH writeup.

I've got my work-up, Goldshadow, turned in... I turned him in within a week of the entries opening. Of course, since Busy Ben doesn't send "I got it!" verifications out, I really don't know if he got it. But I turned it in.

Who all has entered? I wanna get a feel of how thoroughly I'm gonna get my butt kicked.

BTW, I'm really looking forward to next month. I've got plans for the Sabretooth-esque character. Plans that I know for a fact won't land me a winning position, but the concept is too durn fun to pass up! (I'll clarify once I've actually turned in my entry.)

Thanks for reminding me. I had a great idea for a character and was finally going to enter.

I had forgotten all about it.

    Thanks LL and CH.

Glen Sprigg raised a good question on the temp boards that I don't think ever got answered. Do us previous winners have a chance at winning again, or are we just competing for honorable mentions? (Given the impeccable quality of my submissions, I'm wondering why I haven't won more than once. )
"Similarly, don't get hung up trying to figure out the 'exact right way' to build something using the Hero System rules..." (6E2 277).

    Yeah, that'll happen.

Anybody can win the Name The Hero contest, even previous winners. Ben knows who submitted which character, but Tina and I do our judging blind with no names attached. Since we have regularly gotten several publication-worthy characters per contest, picking the winner inevitably comes down to inscrutable personal preferences and the arbitrary mood of the judges. Presentation does count (especially spelling!), but less than originality, creative use of the Hero rules and general writing quality in the backstory and descriptions. dw

One more day to get those entries in for Black Spandex Man, phokes! Better get them in quick if you haven't already.

The more competition I have, the better this contest will be!

Aww, man, I'm not going to have time to finish my guy. I've got the concept worked out, and the powers written up, but that's as far as I've had time to get.

    Question Also...

Another quick question, closely related to the above, as I find myself in the same boat as Dave...

Is the deadline for the Man In Black the end of today (27th), or the end of tomorrow (28th)?

    Cool

I sent mine in. I worry the spell checker I used may have altered one word wrong, but I almost missed the deadline so I was in a rush. *Shakes his head*

Darn Crimson Hawk, you have such nice sportsmanship it almost makes me feel guilty for sending those ninjas out to 'distract' people.

Thanks, Hermit. I admit there are reasons why I feel I can afford to be a good sportsman in this contest. But I enjoy being a good sportsman.

That aside, I need to apologize to Bob. I didn't mean to insinuate that the deadline was tonight. If I understand correctly, the deadline is the end of the evening on the 28th.

Technically, as of the time of this writing and within the Central Time Zone, you have 32 hours to turn in your entry. Considering that California is two hours behind Missouri, I'll assume the count is actually 34.
