Magic Returns Reading List

I'm looking for reading suggestion for Magic Returns stories (ie: Modern times when magic and fantasy elements return).

Things I have thought of.

1. Shadowrun RPG and novel (I never liked Shadowrun due to the cyberpunk parts)
2. GURPS Technomancer
3. Buffy RPG and novels
4. White Wolf WoD RPGs and novels.
5. Sean Stewart's "Resurrection Man" and "Night Watch"

Can you thnk of any others?

Piers Anthony's worlds have a lot of this, such as his Incarnations of Immortality series.

The Stand

The Movie "Wizards"

The latter two are probably more apocalyptic than you are looking for.

ERm there is a series of books about wizards of multible races (including humans, dinosaurs and housecats) can't remember the titles clearly (something about a moon?)

Mercedes Lacky also has a series of urban fantasies
beggining with Bedlams bard
I would also check out her SERRAted Edge books
i would also look for Ellen Guon and check on her works

Again more apocalyptic then it sounds like you want but the Rifts universe is all about the return of magic...It just happened to be a very violent return.

There were a series of short stories about the return of elves, and magic, that was limited to one town: Bordertown, Borderlands

Just about anything by Emma Bull or Charles deLint would give an excellent feel for magic seeping slowly back. Tim Powers does an excellent job in Expiration Date, Earthquake Weather, and Last Call. These examples aren't really of Magic Returning, just the character discovering that it was there all along. They don't deal with the idea of society's reaction to the re-emergence of magic.

Larry Niven has written a series of books on a related theme, The Magic Goes Away, Burning City, The Magic May Return (actually a collection of short stories by various authors).

Though I haven't read them, the Laurel K. Hamilton <I>Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter</i> books might fit the bill.

Fun read either way......young adult though.

Katherine Kurtz Adept series is very interesting for magic in the modern day.

Mage the Ascenscion (2nd Ed prefferably) might give you some ideas...

{grunts} Yeah; I cant stand Anthony normally, but the IoI series is semi-bearable, and has some interesting concepts. Some of it is better than other. I didnt enjoy the Nature one and War has a mess too IIRC. Death and Time I vaguely recall as being ok, and Evil was vaguely interesting IIRC. They idea of Mephitopholes, Satan, Beelzebub, etc just being different officeholders of the avatar of Evil over the millenia, with different spins on thier role in the universe was kind of cool. Beware however; at the end of the day its still Piers Anthony.....

Yes it is... Sorry, when I wrote last night I had had a long day, and it was too late for me to confirm (or correct) my first thought...

And I LOVED the Adept series!

There is a series by Terry Brooks, it started with Running with Demons, goes on to Knight of the Word, and finaly Angelfire East I beleive

Also I like the Harry Potter books...
