"As the War of 1812 broke-out, Blackbeard feared the Americans would steal his silver so he buried it in the mountains, and he never returned for it." Except Blackbeard died in 1718.

"...Babylon is whether or not this ancient city ever even existed." It existed, it's location is known and well explored. The location of the Hanging Gardens is unclear, but that's a different matter all together.

Holy Grail: What's that thick white line supposed to be? It doesn't consistently follow any one edge/outline. This whole thing is proof that if you throw together enough disparate facts and info, you can come up with any theory you want, without proving anything.

Oh, and the Pyramids were built by piling up dirt around the growing structure, and hauling the blocks up gentle inclines on sledges. Simple, really.

The hidden Nazi plunder is, unfortunately, after the Pulp Era per se.

Some of the others are cool, though, especially the Afghan treasure and the Inca cities & treasures. The Merchant Royal is a little hard to do in the Pulp Era, as the aqualung wouldn't exist yet; deep-sea diving is possible, just takes a lot more logistics. Too bad the Dead Sea Scrolls weren't found until 1947; the Copper Scroll sounds interesting.

Hey, if a Pulp author wanted Blackbeard's treasure buried in 1812, I don't think he'd let Mr. beard being dead stop him.

The Lost City of Stone in Petra: The ancient city of Petra was once a strong kingdom of about 20,000 people which flourished as an important center of trade soon after it was settled in the 4th Century BC. The people who lived here were called Nabataeans, a group of Arabian nomads. They eventually settled in Petra, Jordan and created the city entirely of stone. Most of the city was carved into massive rock formations. The city consisted of a theater, temples, altars, banquet halls, and almost 3,000 elaborate rock-cut tombs. It’s still a mystery as to why the city of Petra was abandoned, but most experts believe that it was because of a massive earthquake in 363 AD which ruined half of the complex. Still, much of the city stands today, and the Lost City of Stone is a major tourist attraction; it’s even considered as one of the new 7 wonders of the world. The Lost City of Petra may look familiar to you because it was a backdrop for the Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
Been to Petra, beautiful and fascinating. As you look at the buildings, keep in mind they were not built, they were sculpted out of the cliff face. Sandstone, but still many, many man-hours work there.

One of the reasons for abanding the city may have been the population outgrowing the water supply. The aquaduct is still working, it's a troft about four inches accross.

Next November all of you will go to the polls: you'll stand there in the polling place and make a decision. I think when you make that decision. it might be well if you would ask yourself, is Osama bin Laden still dead?

Absolutely not, and neither should we!

Pirate Ghosts are awesome. Even Ninjas admit that.

    Nah, Ghostly Ninja Pirates.

Likewise, I've been to Petra. The old 22" oil line running out from the AOC facility in the neutral zone ran across North Saudi and into Jordan. Every 10 years or so some Saudi idiots asks if it can be rehabilitated and a bunch of people go for a pleasent drive. So we did some tourist stuff. This was in '86. An amateur historian said that it died out as the trade routes changed as weather changed and other cities grew. This place had been a convenient stop that was no longer convenient. A bit like a lot of smaller American towns on old highways that were bypassed as the super highways went past them.
