Destroy the World 203 (Extra Credit)

Okay, class, in Destroy the World 101 we learned all the traditional ways to destroy the world (a really big bomb / laser cannon, earthquake machine, drop an asteroid/comet/the Moon on the planet, release a global disease, cause a new Ice Age, dry up all the water, burn off the atmosphere...the list goes on and on and on).

Yawn.

Okay, class, for extra credit, describe a way of destroying the world via Utopia!

A couple of expalainitory points:

1) By "Utopia", I do not mean the Orwellian variety where Big Brother proclaims a Utopia but without the actual benefits happening.

2) It should be by providing an over-abundance of things that people SAY they want, and usually want in limitless quantitites.

Example:

"The Midas Plague" Wealth (Perk) 15 point level, AoE (1 Hex +.5) MegaArea (+1.5), Sticky (+.5), Uncontrolled (+.5), Usable As an Attack (+1), OAF "Utopia Machine" (-1) 75 Active, 38 Real

Since the "wealth" Perk isn't limited to an actual government-printed currency, whatever is the chosen medium of exchange becomes instantly worthless as a basis for an economy, since the moment it becomes the MOE, everyone has a huge frickin' amount of it. (Weight-loss pills that Really Work With No Side-Effects become the unit of exchange because all currency has gone down the toilet. BING! Now everyone has a huge supply of the things, so they are now effectively worthless as a MOE.)

Okay, class, prepare your assignments -- and remember, you're being graded not only on originality and creativity, but feasability as well! (No 2,000+ point monstrosities, please!)

OK, how 'bout:

Life Support (Immunity: All terrestrial diseases and biowarfare agents, Longevity: Immortal), Sticky (Standard; +1/2), Usable As Attack (+1) (37 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Hour; -3), OAF Bulky Fragile (-1 3/4)--6 Real Points

Won't even need Megascale since it's Sticky. The person you give it to touches someone, who touches someone, and it's the whole "and they'll tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends."

You've then got worldwide immortality and no fear of disease, so the only way people die is either by accident or violence. Or, more likely, starving to death, because there ain't people dying, but there sure as heck are people breeding. Anyone up for a wild, wacky game of Global Starvation?

Someone discovers the legendary Horn or Plenty, which provides an unending supply of food: Summon food, variable result (any natural food), 0 END Persistant, Continuous. AP wouldn't have to be too high, since the amount produced at one time would be less important than the fact that it never stops producing it.

Anywhere the Horn appears, there would surely be conflict between different factions striving to possess it: the promise of enough food for everyone is powerful incentive, and that promise being wrapped up in a single item that only one party can own is a powerful temptation.

If it showed up in a developing country, it would probably be kept in the hands of the "haves" until the "have nots" demanded their fair share, leading to rebellion and open warfare. The developed nations would likely step in on "humanitarian" grounds, in order to "secure this resource for the benefit of the whole world." Which would likely fuel resentment in Third World countries and spark a wider pseudo-holy war between First World and Third.

If the Horn was discovered in a developed country, the government would seize it to study and "manage" it. Humanitarian lobby groups would demand that the food it produces be shared with the planet's needy, but government and business would declare shipping that much food to not be "cost efficient", which would probably cause mass demonstrations and violence. Meanwhile, the poorer nations would accuse the possessor of the Horn of hoarding while their people starved, which would again stir up widespread anger leading to terrorist acts or war.

Whoever did end up with the Horn, however powerful and/or well-intentioned, would certainly be the target of jealousy and distrust by every party that thought someone else should possess it; some of those could unite against the possessor. The situation might get straightened out eventually, but not before the world was a war-ravaged mess.

Add to this a big Transform to give the whole world a Psych Lim that they fervently believe in the same religion. Doesn't matter which one, as long as you pick one that disallows birth control. Now, not only will fewer people be dying by violence (because they all largely share the same values and worldview), but the overpopulation problem will become even more dire, as the populace can neither die of old age or infirmity, nor slow the rate of population expansion by birth control.

Ooooh, I like that. Evil of a new level. Of course, the advantage to not having the Transform is it makes people more prone to violence. If the goal is to actually destroy the world, people being unwilling to kill each other screws things up. I say no Transform. The world ends quicker if people are willing to nuke each other for food.

To add to my original post--make it Visible. People know who has the gift of eternal life, and want to get it from them. Increase the desperation.

Utopia generally has ALOT of nature....espically trees.....
More trees means More pure Oxygen....more Oxygen means things can get flamible real, real quickly....
All we need is one spark, and the 100% pure Oxygen world goes Ka-Boom!

Most everyone I know of, at one time or another has wondered "if only I knew what they were really thinking. If only I could just get inside their head..."

Well, for those folks, that wish has been granted;

Active Cost: 100 points
Real Cost: 9 points

Thus, the bomb is dropped off in an airport or whatever. The target is infected with Red Goo nanobots (see SH), and they go to town on the victims body, inducing him or her to pick up on EVERY thought being 'thunk' as it is thought. All the time. From multiple sources. Everywhere. Psychopathy should set in shortly after the "infection's" symptoms manifest themselves approximately 24 hours after "Zero Hour".

True, but the original point was to destroy it by utopia... not necessarily destroy it quickly. Immortality and universal harmony sound very nice... until you combine them with no population control and a limited amount of room and resources.
