Intro Solo scenario for new player

Hey guys, got a problem here.

Recently I was elected leader of the Roleplaying society at my school. Good job lots of perks, lots of Hero System. Problem is I am responsible for bringing in new blood.

I have a kid who's interested in roleplaying but has never done anything like that before. So I am planning to do a short game with only him to get him to learn how to play, with a mostly ready made character (Skills and background he controls).

Now here is the problem. I don't know what scenario to run? A simple bank job, a beginning/end to a mystery? Or even if 4 colour is the best age for a beginner. Iron age to make it more believable?

Any advice you have to offer on what to run would be excellent.

The very first bit of Champions I ever played was the simple "you see a bank robbery in progress" situation

Just remember that all you need to do is tell the player to tell you what they want to do and you will take on the job of converting that into Champions actions.
Which is a good rule of thumb for any session, let alone your first

I like the bank robbery idea also, but if there is any fluff from the current campaign you can throw in (a mock newspaper, a news report, ect.) you can start introducing the player to your world at the same time.

That sounds like a good idea.

I remember a site that could make your own newspapers that looked authentic. Anyone know where it is?

My most successful introductory scenario was "You wake up in the hospital after a probably exposure to nuclear fallout." Players had to figure out their powers (built by myself), then take their first steps out into a world in need of super heroes. This completely hooked the group on Hero (they had been a GURPS group before that.) Once they had a feel for the way combat and skills worked, I gave them their character sheets, and allowed them to make modifications.

That is a...a really nice idea. And it works because the guy doesn't know how to make a character sheet he won't mind too much.

Maybe not nuclear fallout but playing his origin story would be quite cool.

    you have been repped.
