Sneaky Free-flying cyborg insects steered from a distance

    http://www.newscientist.com/article/...-distance.html

For the first time, researchers have controlled the movements of free-flying insects from afar, as if they were tiny remote-controlled aircraft.

By connecting electrodes and radio antennas to the nervous systems of beetles, the researchers were able to make them take off, dive and turn on command.
    Just think of the possibilites...

I agree. We're implanting electrodes into the brains of other creatures to control them. Even if they are "just beetles," there's a cold-bloodedness to this research that I find disturbing.

How long before the same thing can be done to a human being, and when would the devices be small enough that they would be entirely internal after surgery?
