    Why not colour?

Given how many people talk about how much they'd like to see full-colour Hero products, I was recently wondering why Digital Hero isn't coloured?

I could *guess* some reasons why this might be, but I was wondering if the idea had really been considered and discarded for some reason or if it just hadn't been thought about.

Actually, I printed one issue out, my kid had the crayons out, and ... well, at least one issue is colored.

Seriously, I'm guessing it has to do with cost and size, and maybe time. I may be wrong, but I'd guess a color pic takes more memory than line art, and artists might charge more for color than b/w or greyscale. (I could easily be wrong here on either count.)

As is, a 5 MB file is pretty big for a phone modem to download. If full color made it 7-10 MB, I might be discouraged from purchasing DH if a cable modem wasn't available.

    Anyway, that's just my guess.

We can't even afford color art for our actual books. We definitely can't afford it for the e-magazine, which pays far lower rates for everything across the board.

Can't we just promise not to hit Nato with an electric cattleprod if he colorizes in his copious free time?

D'oh! Of course. I was only thinking about colour as affecting printing costs. It only makes sense that it affects the cost of the artwork as well.
