Question Total Point Count & Character Image Oddity

My players had previously submitted their characters from files using HD 1.47.

The totals had worked out to 450 pts each, with HD 1.47.

With 2.0.27 the totals now come out as 449, 450, 451, 452. Quite odd.

A "rounding off" issue that needs to be set?

Also, 3 of 4 character images are now exceedingly large when viewed inside the HD file. As it happens, the 450 one, has the normal sized image. Again odd.

Do I need to resize them? Or was it just a coincidence with the earlier versions?

Point totals: Make sure you go through the characters, there may have been a couple of abilities that did not transfer cleanly from v1 to v2. Enhanced Senses in particular....those have changed radically betwen the two versions and, while I've put in what "conversion" routines that I can, there is normally still some work to be done to finish the conversion.

The other thing to check is the number of decimal places that are being used for rounding. v1 used 1 decimal place (the default listed in FREd). v2 (I believe) defaults to 2 decimal places (the number used for published characters) and can be set under the app prefs. The number of digits for rounding should really only amount to a point or two of difference, normally....

As for the images, in v1, the images were being resized. This caused two issues:

    1. Only JPGs were allowed, because I had to be able to translate the image within HD.

    2. Some folks were having performance issues because of the image sizer. Odd, but they were there.

So, on v2 I pulled the image sizer entirely. This allows me to open up the types of images that can be accepted and gets rid of any performance issues that folks were having in that area.

The downside is that HD will display the image in whatever size you provide. If they're too big, you may want to try saving a smaller image size for use on the characters.

    Hope this helps!

Suggestion: Keep the image resizer. Add an option to enable/disable it.

I like the enable/disable idea for an
    image resizer.

I don't know about the enhanced senses yet . . . but the point rounding feature
makes all the difference. Still not working right, but . . .

As it happens, it was set at the default of 1 decimal place.

Won't happen, for the reasons listed above.

I do not view it to be a major issue that the images are shown in their actual size. If you want the image to be smaller, then save it as a smaller size.

On the point issue, please post one of the characters in question...I'll open it up in v1 and then in v2 and I should be able to tell you what the difference is from.

Sure . . . knock you self out. In fact here are all four in question. (zipped into 1 files. )

I stripped out the images, as a "reported by windows" file size of 426KB, is somehow is larger than 1024KB. Also, changed them from HDZ to HDC format. (Now reported as a 46KB file.)

Anything else I can do too help?

I agree it's not a major issue as far as screen display goes. I'm more worried about printing:

Let's say I create a character and plan to print it using a 2 column template. Do I have to I resize the image to fit the column? After printing, I decide to try a 3 column template instead. Do I have to resize the image to fit the narrower column?

HD never did anything with the image during the export...that was entirely up to the export format.

Most of the exports that use images are HTML -- they set the image size to display the way they want it to, relying on the browser to shrink the image down.

OK, the one that I checked was Behemoth. He showed 450 total under v1.47 and 453 total under v2.

v2 showed 1 extra point on the Skills tab because you were using the Language Familiarity chart and had purchased Korean, which did not have a 1-point similarity to any other language that you knew (and was therefore penalized a point as specified in your campaign rules).

v2 showed 1 extra point on the Powers tab for the "Up up and away" Leaping Power. This was because (on my copy) rounding was set to 2 decimal places in v2 and (as stated) v1 uses 1 decimal place.

The final point difference was due to the Access Perk. For some reason, that's not saving the way it should under v1, which is causing issues with the Perk when it is restored under v2. I'll get a fix in for that for the next update.

Ah, me get it. Is good. Grog be printing good. Grog no more care about image resize feature.

    (Dan, thank you for explaining)
