    Champions Universe

Here's our back cover text describing CU:

    A WORLD OF SUPERHEROIC ADVENTURE!

Being a superhero’s about more than just beating up bad guys and sending them to prison. It’s also about the people you save, the places you have those fights, and how your hero interacts with the world around him as he crusades for justice.

Champions Universe presents a world made for your superheroic adventures! The official setting for Champions, the Champions Universe is a compelling world filled with unique and intriguing details to make campaigns more exciting and fun. It includes:

—a history of the world from the rise of superhumans in 1938 until the present day

—how the superhumans of the Champions Universe affect and interact with government, the media, technology, and society

—a review of superhumans and sites of interest around the world, ranging from Millennium City and Vibora Bay to secret bases, long-lost civilizations, space stations, and mystic gateways

—a look at what the most prominent characters and organizations in the setting — Dr. Destroyer, UNTIL, Mechanon, DEMON, VIPER, Grond, Foxbat, and many more — are like, and what schemes and missions they’re currently involved in

—hundreds of scenario hooks for GMs and character ideas for players

—a separate GM’s Vault section for “GM only” information, so players can use the book without learning any of the secrets the GM plans to create adventures around

No matter what type of heroes your campaign has, Champions Universe is the perfect setting for their adventures!

I have the PDF of the book, and IMHO it's very thorough, well organized, easy to read, and fascinating. Color is used effectively to highlight and distinguish various elements, not just for artwork... but I must say, the color art is good-to-gorgeous.

I have to agree with the Lord. The book is well organized, easy on the eyes, the text flows and is entertaining and the artwork enhance the whole atmosphere. Very nice.

I just realized that the back cover is missing from the PDF files though.

Are you looking in the right place? The back cover is usually the second page of the PDF.

So, is this a campaign setting or more of a tool to assist in campaigns?

    Thanks,

It's the official superhero setting for the HERO System. Steve's first post in this thread (the back cover text) gives a good summary of what it includes.

    Re: Champions Universe

This book presents the default official campaign setting for virtually all the characters and organizations appearing in the Champions line of books. However, the setting incorporates nearly every concept and precedent from mainstream superhero comics, as well as examining how the existence of superhumans would impact history and society. So, any such campaign would likely find many things to crib from the book.

    Re: Champions Universe

I finally saw this book in person the other day and while I love the layout and the use of color, the artwork is . . . well below par. I was very disappointed after the art in the 6th edition Hero books was such a step up. Very disappointing.
I still miss comeliness. What a terrible decision for 6E to have made.
