Link from the Legend of Zelda

I am putting together a Superhero Champions campaign. One of my sons is a huge Legend of Zelda fan, and wants to play a character based on Link (the main character) from the games. His brother told him that would be a heroic character and would not fit in a superhero campaign. I am pretty sure that if the character was based on the fully upgraded Link at the end of any of the games then he would be fairly close to 400 points.

Since I am fairly new to Champions and would most likely flail around for a bit building Link from scratch, so I wanted to ask has someone built Link as a 400 point superhero for Champions, or if someone has some tips on how to get started building one. I figure Link and Zelda are pretty popular characters, so this nut may already be cracked.

I did some searching around, but didn't come up with anything. If someone wants to direct me to some other good sources where I might be able to find something like this on my own that would be great too!

    Thanks!

Surbrooks Site is good for tons of characters, some of which could be used for Link.

An adult Link could be done on 400 points depending on the game. His master sword and bow are killing attacks. Advantages could be added to affect phantoms, or set them on fire against ice villains. Resurrection when killed. Gliding bought with Oaf for the leaf. Healing potions. Swinging and super leap with the hook.

Navi could be bought as a follower or a contact with specialized powers.

The wind waker changes the direction of the wind and performs a teleport/superleap that can carry a whole boat.

The ocarina of time is a multipower that can change time. I dont remember the specifics now, but each song would be a slot in my opinion.

    I hope that helps.

Re: Link from the Legend of Zelda

In a supers games, I might question the wisdom of having a champion whose main lines of action are killing attacks. Swords and Bows don't make for friendly attacks. ^^.

That said, which link are you referring to? Each game had a slightly different version of the intrepid hero when finally done. Ocarina of time had the magical ocarina that could, well, slow / stop or otherwise alter time. Then there was Majora's mask that had the various masks that gave powers, including the supreme deity's mask. So on and so forth.

Sword is a sword - just make it a big one.
The Bow - MP with a few tricks or as a normal Bow with varying special effect
    Shield - Good Shield.
Potions - Healing and maybe a couple others if you want to build in a mana pool.
    Masks - VPP
Ocarina - Very broke to use in this kind of game
    Bombs - Triggered explosion RKA
Staff - Staff - maybe a reach attack.
Those beens - AOE (one hex) flash (sight and sound maybe). Could probably find the write of for flash bangs and use that.
Grappling hook - Maybe Stretching and clinging build as a single power via a focus. (possibly an oddly built fly)
Boomerang - EB with focus or Phys. Man.
    A horse is a horse
Navi is probably just a special effect. I don't think I would build it as a follower or DNPC but DNPC is the best route if you want to build it, IMO.

    ect.

Re: Link from the Legend of Zelda

A few random thoughts on how to build a superheroic Link:

The Boomerang should be a Blast with AoE: Line (in most games the boomerang hits everything in its path, and usually it just goes out and comes back in a line). You could make it Nonselective, since in the more modern 3D Zelda games the Boomerang tended to be a bit harder to aim. Another option would be to make it an "Any Area" AoE, with a Limitation reflecting that it only traces a path to return to return to Link. I wouldn't give it a the Focus or Physical Manifestation Limitation, as in the games nothing could stop it returning to you (except a plot point like getting jailed or the like).

I wouldn't build the potions into the sheet, as I could see them getting abusive, and they weren't really inherent to Link - he had to keep buying them from stores or finding them, whereas with something like the Boomerang or Hook Shot, once he found it, it kept it for the duration. Bombs are the exception - although Link could run out of them, once he found them he always had a slot for them, even if at the moment he was out of them (plus, bombs are cooler than potions).

I would build the sword as a small Multipower with a basic HKA for the normal slash, a Hole in the Middle AoE Radius HKA for the spinning slash that he has in many games, and a Blast with the Limitation "Only at Full Body" (-1/4) for the energy blast he could fire from the sword at full health in the early games.

The game-specific items like the Ocarina or the Masks I wouldn't include - I'd stick to the classic items and abilities that are in almost every game.

I think a well-built Link could work quite well in a Superhero game, so long as the player realizes that he'll be more like Batman than Superman - Very flexible, with a lot of tricks up his sleeve, but not as much raw power.

As to the sword idea, I think building it as an MP might be a bit of a stretch. If you want to simulate the various tricks, just build them as Martial arts. It seems to me that Link's various attacks with the sword were never dependent on the sword itself, but on his skill - thus he could use it for most any sword he picked up.
