    How damaged is damaged?

I was thinking of picking up some some 6th ed rule books, but am curious how damaged are the damaged books? Just bent corners, or used to thwart zombie/pirate/wildcat attacks? I'm forgiving if it's not too bad, but was was thinking of giving a set as a gift, and don't want them to look too chewed up...

Last time I got damaged items it was things like (and only one of them usually):
    • A couple of watermarks
    • Bent corner
    • Small quarter inch area of cover graphic gone (due to tape or something)

Basically it looked like sometime you would pick up at your local gaming store if it had been sitting on the shelf for a bit and handled by a couple of people.

My experience has been pretty much the same as ngross'. Sometimes there's a crease in the cover like it was folded, sometimes there's scuffing on the cover, not usually anything worse than that.

Pretty much, the "damaged" books are indistinguishable from the normal books after reading them through a time or two, or using them in a game session.

Yeah, it's not like they used them for target practice.

You know, I bet they could auction off the ones they did use in that infamous video....

I've bought quite a few "damaged" books from Hero over the years. The worst damage I ever saw was a nickel-sized white patch scraped off one corner of the cover. In all cases the interiors were clean and fully legible. Sometimes I was hard-pressed to even find the damage.

Order placed. We'll see what shows up. Thanks for the input all.

    Follow up:
Just a minor bent corner. The kind of damage that if you saw on the shelf of your local game store, you'd check to see if there was a better copy, and then still buy it (at full price) if there wasn't.

    Satesfied customer.

    Re: How damaged is damaged?

Out of about 20 books I have bought damage, only 2 or 3 have been immediatly evident, and only one of them would have prevented me from buying it at full price (The cover had a thin cut through it, like someone with a box cutter went to far, cover was sound but the white line on it from the cut is jarring to me). Overall I consider them good deals

    Re: How damaged is damaged?

Recently I've bought some Hero books from Amazon (new), and a "damaged" one from the Hero store. The "damaged" book was in better shape than some of the ones I got from Amazon.

    Re: How damaged is damaged?

Just got my new Character Creation book. The "damage" was a slight crinkle on one of the corners on the back cover. I need to find more of these "damaged" books.
