Wouldn't say I prefer it, but I wind up doing it 99% of the time "by popular demand" by my players. And it's a good way to make sure you're "playing" in a campaign you enjoy.

I've got the actual boxed set I bought at a yard sale. It's awesome. I also have PDFs of all the adventures and supplements I found online for free.

OK, we have me, my son, and two other people. I propose a 'meet and greet' at Game Empire on Sunday, the 12th of February, at high noon, followed by McLunch where we can discuss campaigns and characters. IF no one else steps up, I'm going to assume I'm the GM, and we'll use the stuff I posted earlier as guidlines. So, bring your first draft of your character. I'll have my son write something up tonight, and I'll have 2-3 generic characters pre-written (Brick, blaster, martial artist) for people who can't think of anything and/or are new to the game.

We could push the time back 30 minutes or an hour, if that would work better for you.

I think we are now talking 1 p.m. and I am planning on being there; I am not sure about the agenda...or preparation. Like...homework!?

Current plan: 1pm, Sunday the 12th. Just a meet and greet. Bring first draft of characters, using my guidelines from earlier in the thread. UNLESS someone else would rather run...

I've got a friend who would like to come. He's never played Hero System except I think one time, but has played D.C. Heroes, Marvel Super Heroes, and the diceless Marvel game from a few years back.

I can GM, but if so I think it might be best if we determined what "flavor" everyone would want to play. Some settings I just would have no interest in GM-ing as they don't interest me enough to do the necessary homework to make a good game for the players. Example: "dark" super heroes who kill without a second thought--makes me want to gag when I see it in comics, wouldn't want to slog through hours-long sessions of "murder by super power."

But I wouldn't mind playing a PC in Shadow Hawk's setting idea, either. It sounds like it could be kinda New Teen Titansy in a good way. Maybe I can be Kid Atomic Fireball.

Yes, I'm looking for a New Teen Titans/New X-Men feel. I've got a mentor set up (retired hero), and am hoping the players set up "new" heroes. There's no requirement to be young/teenager though, if your elderly archeologist discovers the Hammer of Thor (I mean the Spear of Lehr) and gains the powers of Thor (I mean Lehr) when he taps it on the ground, but is new at the hero thing, that's fine. Likewise, the famous Colonel Tank has retired from the army, but he's bored and wants to try superheroing...
Or, as you said, Kid Atomic Fireball, DefenderLad, FoxbatLass, Saphire Girl and Dr. Destroyer Boy have all teamed up...

As for your own campaign, you could do what I did, throw out what you want to run and see if anybody bites.

I'll bug my roommate until he agrees to drop me off there, but I'll need a ride home as there's basically no bus service on weekends from my area to there.
