Attempting to install an old version (HD3) on a Windows 7 (64-bit) machine

I purchased Hero Designer in 2009, opened it once and got distracted with life... Now I'd like to install it on my machine but am having issues. First of of all, I can't re-download it from my account (as far as I can tell). I'm assuming this is because my 2-year support contact has expired.

I've dug up the HD3 files I backed up on my external hard drive in 09, unzipped them, but cannot find an installer. Help?

    Thanks for your time.

Edit: Ah, just realized it's a Java thing. I guess I have to contend with that first. I tried installing the application jre-6u14-windows-i586-iftw but to no avail.

Re: Attempting to install an old version (HD3) on a Windows 7 (64-bit) machine

I downloaded the Java 6 (most recent version) downloaded the HD application opened it and tried to check for updates (to see if I could get updates from my 2-year period of support) and got an interesting message (I'm not sure how to take this-- have I inadvertently offended someone?):

    Nope. File not found.
No object, no file, no bundle of joyous data.
Nothing. Zip. Nada. Zilch. It's not here.
The requested document is totally fake.
    It's not here.
    Even tried multi.
    Nothing helped.
    I'm really depressed about this.
You see, I'm just a web server...
-- here I am, brain the size of the universe,
trying to serve you a simple web page,
and then it doesn't even exist!
    Where does that leave me?!
    I mean, I don't even know you.
How should I know what you wanted from me?
You honestly think I can *guess*
what someone I don't even *know*
    wants to find here?
    *sigh*
Man, I'm so depressed I could just cry.
And then where would we be, I ask you?
It's not pretty when a web server cries.
And where do you get off telling me what to show anyway?
Just because I'm a web server,
and possibly a manic depressive one at that?
Why does that give you the right to tell me what to do?
    Huh?
    I'm so depressed...
I think I'll crawl off into the /dev/null and decompose.
I mean, I'm gonna be obsolete in what, two weeks anyway?
What kind of a life is that?
    Two effing weeks,
and then I'll be replaced by a .01 release,
that thinks it's God's gift to web servers,
just because it doesn't have some tiddly little
security hole with its HTTP POST implementation,
    or something.
I'm really sorry to burden you with all this,
I mean, it's not your job to listen to my problems,
and I guess it is my job to go and fetch web pages for you.
But I couldn't get this one.
    I'm so sorry.
    Believe me!
Maybe I could interest you in another page?
There are a lot out there that are pretty neat, they say,
and some of them were put on *my* server, of course.
    Surprised you didn't I?
You thought I had only crappy shit here, didn't you?
Well no. Some crap I have is actully pretty cool.
Problem is a lot of people are interested in this shit.
That makes me depressed too, since I have to serve them,
all day and all night long.
    Two weeks of information overload,
and then *pfffff*, consigned to the trash.
What kind of a life is that?

the installer does not work with 64 bit ,neither does the shortcut it creates
but you can get it started by using the runHD MS-DOS Batch file

if you can you could install it on a flash drive using XP, and then place it on your Win 7 machine

I installed it on an 8gig SDCard with Java 32 bit
then just left it in my SDcard reader on my laptop

Sounds like you're running the application fine, you just need to apply the most recent update that you have access to. The link contained in the initial version of the application is no longer valid, but you can simply open the "Hero Designer" menu on the Hero Games site (which the link takes you to) and go to the "Updates" page....

The installer (and software) works fine for me under Win7 64-bit. Just install it to Program Files (x86).

I think you would have to have UAC turned off for that to work. HD needs to write to its own directory to work properly. And normally, Win7 does not let you write to that directory (other than from an installer).

Although, it may also work if you're logged in as an administrator but I'm not sure.

Thanks everyone. It seems to be loading fine, even updated it successfully (though I haven't played with it yet).

Hey Andy, I saw that you're a 3d artist. Here are a few rough renders of my own

    Cheers
