    How Do I create negative Characteristic Modifiers that automatically apply?

    I am trying to create a Half-Orc Racial Template using the Compound Power under the Powers tab. I want to assign a negative Characteristic modifier as part of the racial template, and the Characteristic selection doesn't allow for negative modifiers at all. I can use the Custom Power selection to create the negative Characteristic within the Compound Power button, but it will not add (or subtract in this case) from the Characteristics in the program.

    Here is the racial template that I am trying to create in HERO Designer:

    [7] Half-Orc Template Cost:

    -- [4] +1 STR, +1 CON, +2 Body
    -- [-2] -1 INT, -1 EGO
    -- [5] Orc Eyes: Night Vision

    I would sincerely appreciate any assistance.

    The official way is to build the character with the Characteristics adjusted and then save it as a Package Deal.

    I played around and figured out how to create, save, and apply my new Half-Orc Package Deal to a character. I thought I might be going about it the wrong way- I'm still a noob with the program.

    Hero Designer is a very powerful program. It just isn't always as intuitive as it could be, especially when you are trying to emulate what packages look like from the books. Rest assured though that any questions you ask will soon be answered.

    Though in fairness, intuitiveness is often in the eye of the beholder. I've been confused by things that turned out to be perfectly obvious to other people, and vice-versa. (And not just in Hero Designer... )

    I'll give you that. In this specific instance, a lot of folks' first thought is to try to construct the Package in one place, because the books show it that way. It is sort of a programmed intuitiveness, or perhaps more accurately, expectation. I honestly think it would be a good idea to be able to make packages that way, but I understand why Dan doesn't want to change it. It is not too much more effort to learn how to do it the way that it is currently done.
