So I'm curious did you come up with a winner?

I'd have went with the name of a mineral/stone/gem which had a sound that was pleasant to the ear as you spoke it. Actually Opal has a nice ring to it

First thank you all for the help !

My favorites was Black Opal, but I submitted the idea to my fellow players, and the name they choosed, mostly because it's a "wink" to the mind and it sticks with the Titania's picture is Hardcore.

First time I ever had so much difficulties to choose a name for a character !

Serena had it all. A life that any other girl would have dreamed of having. But for her, it was never quite enough. Sure, spending every summer in France with her uncle Jacque, skiing every winter in the alps, being 'the girl' in her upper crust highschool in NYC was all great, but never satisfied her. But maybe it was this unquenchable thirst that made her time with her uncle Jacque every summer all the more important to her. Unlike his brother (Serena's father), Uncle Jacque always seemed to know how to have fun. He would spend whole summers with her just exploring France, Europe, and the world! There was rarely a dull moment and Jacque filled their summers with delicious food, wonderous sights, and dangerous voyages.


It was when Serena turned 18 that Uncle Jecque decided to introduce her to what became her greatest passion and her uncle's trade of choice: high end art theft. Jacque was looking for a successor as he was France and Interpol's long sought after Jack of Spades. A name he got from his trade mark calling card. And on one cool late July night, he and her broke into a Spanish museum and stole a collection of rare jewels recently excavated from an ancient Mediterranean city. Among them was an absolutely stunning Black Opal Pendant; a birthday gift for Serena. A gift she would never forget.


As night turned to day, she could start to feel the weight of the world bearing down upon her chest. At first, she thought it was the excitement of the night finally wearing off. But steadily it became too much for her, and she realized she could hardly move, and even breathing became straining. Calling out to her uncle, he rushed to her side. His once light and nimble neice felt like a ton of bricks. Even the floor began to buckle under her. Her pendant shined with an unatural hue as Serena's whole body seemed to transform into pure shimmering stone before her Uncle's very eyes. After a moment, the pendant returned to normal, and Serena once again felt as light as a feather. She couldn't quite understand her uncle's flabbergasted look until she peered into her mirror. She had become living opal!

Serena's principle interest is in keeping up with her Uncle's tradition of appreciated life, love, and other people's stuff. Although she has no need for money, she tires far to easily in the dull life of the elites. Art and Jewel theft offers her that great escape.

First and foremost, Serena tries to maintain her secrecy. Unlike most bricks who barge and out, she prefers stealth. The best robberies are the ones where the police are never called - much less supers.


But for the occassions where she is found out, she has no qualms about using her substantial strength and invulnerability to muscle her way out. Perferring to make an escape to making a stand, she often resorts to deafining opponents quickly and then making a run.

Appearance:


Serena is a striking young lady of 24. She would seem to be at home on most any runway. Black Opal, though, wears an skintight, all black outfit that is practical yet flashy. The single most flashy aspect to her outfit is her Black Opal Pendant that granted her all her powers some 6 years ago. Although it is merely a simple ornate piece of jewelry now, she keeps it with her whenever she goes 'to work' as a good luck Charm.

I decided to go with a 'villain' for this character. Likewise, I thought the idea of bored aristocratic youth turned high class thief was interesting. Blend in the almost contradictory concept of a density increase character who strives for stealth and non-conflict, and it makes for an interesting character.

She could easily make a great ally to any other more traditional thieves. Providing a reliable partner with a unique suite of powers. Likewise, with her High def (physical and mental), and her attacks, she can hold her own against a wide array of would be HEROes. But she most certainly would need some backup if she ever went face to face with the more varied HERO types (fliers, Strong mentalists, etc). Also of note is that, although the pendant gave her the powers, it is not the current source of them, so there is no focus lim on anything.

Hmm.... My Black Opal is a Star Sapphire homage rather than a brick. Like Sougen's character, she's a thief, but in her case she was a homeless teenage runaway when she gained her powers.

I'm still a little vague as to how she gained her powers. I think she was given them by a mysterious mentor, but who he is isn't clear. I'm pretty sure it was a "he" though.

Good thing too. Opal's a very soft, porous stone; a lot of the cabochon shape comes from the coating of glass or acrylic that gets put on it to protect it and preserve the shine. It's also sensitive to heat and drying out.
