    Pirate Hero

Was there ever a Pirate Hero setting? I seem to recall there was...

Yup. During the Iron Crown Enterprises days, there was a supplement in their Campaign Classics line, called simply, Pirates, stock #1040. It was written for Rolemaster and 4th edition Hero System/Fantasy Hero. The book's sitting about half a foot from the back of my computer chair, because I haven't put it back after a recent discussion on these boards.

I'm not sure that's the case. While the Vikings supplement included rules for berserkers, rune magic, and sorcerers, the Pirates supplement had stats for match- and flintlock firearms. Including swivel guns.
...and that's when the destruction began.

My understanding is that the Old Norse word "víkingr" translates as "pirate." Looks like you'd have a tie.

Possibly as a kenning. Most probably, vikingr translates as "man in bay", denoting someone lurking along the coast to assault passersby.

I've heard Raider, Reaver, and Pirate all offered as rough translations of the intent of the word
There are stories of faeries and banshees and the walking dead; but "the worst of them all," is the Fool of Forth, the Amadan-na-Briona, he whose stroke is, as death, incurable.
As to the fool in this world, the pity for him is mingled with some awe, for who knows what windows may have been opened to those who are under the moon's spell, who do not give in to our limitations, are not "bound by reason to the wheel."

    Re: Pirate Hero

They just had a Hagar the Horrible strip where Hager looses his loot to Pirates. The punchline was something like while Vikings are great at plundering castles, pirate rule plundering at sea.
I'm amazed at what I learned, when I sat down and actually read the rules!

Duplication, Usable Against Others, Movies Only...

I've never run a straight-up pirate game, but almost every fantasy game I've ever run has gotten out on the ocean with a treasure map at one point or another.
