Angst New Forum Discussion Board Needed!

I think that a golden opportunity is being missed by Hero Games on its forums.
What is needed is a Roll Call or Build forum where people can place their own characters for Champions (or other settings) or thier own versions of popular characters from comics, movies or books.

I like what Green Ronin did for Mutants and Masterminds (the superhero game that I thought was the best till I discovered Hero System and Champions) with thier "Roll Call" forum on thier Atomic Think Tank website.

I think its a great idea for people to discuss their own, other and famous characters as done up in the Hero System.

Any chance of this or am I just making noise?

What are your thoughts? Moderators? Hero System Owner(s)?

Re: New Forum Discussion Board Needed!

Having a specific area where members are actively encouraged to post HERO System versions of characters owned by someone else strikes me as just asking for trouble. It's one thing if someone happens to post their take on some famous character somewhere on the boards. It's quite another if the company creates an area that says (in effect) "Hey, post your Superman write-up here!" So if there were a specific forum dedicated to character write-ups, I'd think the company would need to be very clear that they didn't want it to be used for people posting "their own versions of popular characters from comics, movies, or books."

That said, I personally think the various genre forums are probably fine for this as it is. You can already start (and search by) threads with the prefix "Character:". That seems sufficient to me.

    Moving this to "Company Questions."

I am opposed to "forum creep" in general. I definitely don't want a forum where people are encouraged to post characters they may not own the rights to. I think it's easy enough to just post your Champions character in the Champions forum, if you're so inclined.

There are several threads of "My Characters..." in different fora. Most notably the Champions forum.

Yah, know that Mike Surbrook does have a site where he posts write ups of characters from TV, Movies, Comics etc.

Other than that if you want to post stuff you create that you own the IP to., Why not use the proper Genre board to do it. YOu could even start a thread there that could possibly catch on. It would also be easier to find the kind of character that someone is looking for by posting to the proper Genre board as well.

I like the idea of a common area for finding user generated content. However, I don't think Forums are the place for it. IMO its just to hard to find anything using "search" on a forum. I'd prefer to see the main site's FreeStuff really expanded. But to do so would take a serious database server configuration.

I think though that this a big project and would require some serious time investment to make a great online repository.

As far as maintaining such a site. The main issue is to avoid the stop and desist letters from arriving when someone posts the X-Men with pictures of actors from the movies. Managing the database for this kind of thing would be the biggest challenge IMO.

For me personally, I find the Obsidian Portal to be a great place to put my stuff. It has an OK set of wiki features, is inexpensive, and provides me control of my content.
