    Hard Back Rule Book

I was wondering something. The spine on my HSRB Vol 1 is already pulling away from the spine. I've had this book less than 6 months and haven't used it all that much, I think.
I have a VOL 2 that I bought at the same time and is showing no separation ant all.

Is this a problem others had have or did I just get a bad one by the luck of the draw. Is it because of the thickness of the book?

    Just wondering

My Volume I came completely clear of the spine within a week of purchase. I've had no problems with Volume II.

I'd say it was just because it is such a big book, but my old 5th Edition Revised was just as big and had no problems at all.

Mine hasn't done that at all, but I'm pretty careful with the spines of all my books (even paperbacks). I rarely lay the book when open.
On the one hand you want realism, on the other you want a playable game. We can argue about this all night long, but until you all line up against the wall and let me shoot you, we are not going to learn anything. ~Sean Waters

I'm having the same problem, but I've been using my copy since it first came out. It's not bad yet, and I aim to be careful with it.

*eyes his books* I can't even begin to describe..... But I also use the hell out of mine.... Been seeing some rather interesting Spine and Binding things with more then a few friends of mine that also have the books and they barely use theirs being more of the PDF breed (and "borrowing" mine in order to keep theirs "Pretty").....

It's one of the (several) reasons I want a 1 book FRED format version of 6e and one of the many reasons I hate glossy paged color game books....

Let's not be so hasty. The universe may well have a lot of hate to go around. :P

My comic shop has a copy of one of the 6E villain books that has similar issues - probably just from customers picking it up to go through it. I've never had great luck with hardcovers either, and tend to prefer softcovers anyway.

I thankfully (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) have not had the chance to play enough since I bought my 6EV1&2 to cause them any damage.

But I've known since I bought them that their production quality was not quite up to the same level as Fred or 5ER. The hardcovers are so thin that they bow/curl outwards. It's unfortunate, but I guess I'll have to look into rebinding them. I think it costs $20-30 per book but it'd be worth it to make them a bit more durable.

My cover also fell off within a short time of receiving it as well. It was not that abused and thought I must have dropped it or something.

Good to know it is not only me then.

    Re: Hard Back Rule Book

I've had mine since they first came out and I've used them a far amount, plus lent them out to new players to read through, and they are still in really good shape. No spine or cover issues. In fact we (my group) we're just talking about how well they have held up given other hard cover books we have had about the same amount of time and use that have started falling apart.

I really think it is an issue at the printers that some batches of books are slightly defective, in terms of the binding, coming off the presses. Things like not enough glue, or stacked wrong, or boxed to soon, etc...

I worked for a small magazine for a while and every once and a while we would have that issue with the magazines. Half the shipment (5-6000) were perfect, the other half would have issues with the binding. We would have to sort them all out and ship them back to get reprinted, but it's a lot easier (and a lot more obvious) to check softcover magazines for these type of issues. In almost all cases it was because they were boxed/stacked to soon after printing so the glue was still loose and began to separate the pages from the cover.
