    Justice League Detroit

Anybody ever build the Detroit-era Justice League members?

    Aquaman
    Elongated Mann
    Gypsy
    Martian Manhunter
    Steel
    Vibe
    Vixen
    Zatanna

Even better, anybody ever play or run a campaign with the Detroit Justice League?

That era was one I hoped to forget (atrocious art). I've built 3 "classic starting versions" of 3 of those (Aquaman, Martian Manhunter and Zatanna) see the last link in my sig below.

I wouldn't say the art was any worse than what they're publishing now with the "hot" artist who draws every face with the same cheekbones and chins.

I'm not saying those were great comics, but they weren't as bad as everyone said at the time (or now). I didn't cancel my subscription just because Superman and Batman weren't on the team anymore. If anything, it's a case of potential not being exploited by the creative team.

Compared the what passes for Justice League comics today, they're Shakespeare.

Loved them myself. I was a big fan of Steel.
I don't remember if I ever made any write ups.

I was a big fan of Vibe.

Breakdancing Dazzler - what could possibly go wrong with that character?

The JLA sourcebooks for DC Heroes and The DCU RPG have write-ups for these characters that can be converted to HERO.

Confession time, I liked them too. Sure,Vibe was an ethnic stereotype, but when you found out he was playing it up all on his own, it worked.

I always liked that Vibe's dialect was a put-on and that he was secretly a mama's boy. I even enjoyed his flamboyant costume. He had potential. When they killed Steel, I wasn't happy. When they killed Vibe I was peeved. We don't get a lot of Latin super heroes.

And when we do get them, they aren't supported by the fans.

At least Latinos get to be heroes, most Native Americans in comics wind up being eco-terrorists or weird mystics.

And they always have to be on the rez wearing traditional garb as their costumes. Shaman was pretty good at least when Alpha Flight started. Didn't read past issue 24, so I don't know what became of him.

In recent years, he was killed off when Alpha Flight got jobbed in a New Avengers story. He was recently revived as part of the "Chaos War" event. May have been part of the most recent attempt to relaunch Alpha Flight; I'm not sure.

Not very helpful unless one owns those.

Vibe and Steel would be easy - glass cannon Energy Blaster and cyborg brick respectively. Gypsy wouldn't be too bad. I'd let her use her illusion powers offensively, just to make her viable in a game. I'm not sure if she was shown doing that in her early appearances.

    Vixen would be tricky.
