Gift Purchases of PDF files -- how do they work?

I'm wondering how the Online Store handles the process of giving someone a copy of a PDF as a gift -- you pay for it and the download link gets sent to the recipient's e-mail address. There's someone I want to show something about Hero, but really don't think I should ask him to buy it -- so I wanted to send him a PDF copy of the 6e Basic Rulebook.

How do you do this, especially if the recipient doesn't currently have an Online Store account?

You could simply do what my wife did for my birthday. Just buy the PDF and send it to him. As long as you don't retain a copy yourself, I don't see anyone objecting.

    cheers, Mark

I already have a copy (purchased from DriveThru) and want to keep it. So I would like to see if there are any other options that would enable me to get him a copy.

You're overcomplicating it, IMO. I have a copy of it too. If I wanted to get a copy for someone else, I would simply buy another copy, and then give one of my two copies to them. Just because it's an electronic version doesn't mean you can't own two copies of it, and later give one of those copies to someone else.

Couldn't you gift him a copy from DriveThru's online store? I mean, Hero Games sees a little less money that way, but you have the option to gift it right from the shopping cart.

In my opinion Hero needs as much money as they can reasonably get from their products.

I find it surprising that the store currently doesn't seem to have a feature for gifting PDFs. Maybe it just hasn't come up very often...

It took Amazon forever to build out the Gift a Kindle book thing on their site and they have like a million developers. Its just a software feature that depending on the back office solution can be easy or very very very complicated.

Has anyone worked with wishlists on the Hero Store? I have made one or two to keep track of the things that I want. However, I have not tried to search for another persons wish list to gift it to them. To be honest, not sure if that functionality is still valid? I just created a test one and it worked. I was able to search for it (have to know it is there to do this), but you have to be logged into the store.

Michael, I know that you mentioned that the person does not have a Hero account. But if they do create one, create a wish list, and tell you its name, you may be able to gift it to them.

That may be the only option other than talking directly with Tina (or Dan).

Or, you know, just do something as insane as just buying another PDF, and giving it to the person...

    Seriously... Is this so complicated?

I must admit, I'm not seeing the problem with this myself. I bought a second copy of a Hero ebook I already had from this website for a friend, and emailed it to him. The store took my credit-card payment without protest, the second copy downloaded from its own provided link just fine, and the two PDFs didn't fight for supremacy on my hard drive.

Just Save the second copy to another file folder than where you keep the first one, so it doesn't try to overwrite the first one.

Agreed since PDFs can't be DRMed very easily its really just a matter of getting another copy.
