Smile Help with building a light war horse template - Please!

OK, I am trying to build a template for the Light War Horse listed on p. 474 of The HERO System Bestiary. I'm a noob to the program and figuring out how to build the things I see listed in the books; so please bare with me.

I've been able to recreate everything listed in the template with some typical monkeying and hammering, except for one power listed- Tough Skin: Resistant (+1/2) for 1 PD/1 ED.

Logically, I went to the Resistant Protection power under the Powers tab. However, I cannot get the cost to match that listed in the book, and it doesn't add properly to the Characteristic values to reflection the protection listed in the book, which looks like this:

    7 PD (1rPD)
    4 ED (1rED)

If I use the Resistant Protection power and use the Custom Adder to bring the cost into line with the book, it still is not adding correctly to the Characteristic values and it shows like this:

    8 PD (1rPD)
    5 ED (1rED)

How can I recreate this power properly in Hero Designer so that it correctly adds the values?

Yes, I know that I can create a Custom Power or Compound Power with a Custom Adder to adjust the cost to mimic the power listed in the book. However, I want to be able to recreate the powers that I see in the book in Hero Designer so that they match for my own enlightenment.

Also, FYI: the Characteristic cost listed for the horse's PD in the book is incorrect; it is listed as 2-points whereas it should be 5-points.

One way to do this (though not the only one) is Powers -> Characteristics -> PD. Buy 1 PD and apply Resistant (make sure it is set to "Add to Primary Value"), repeat with ED (or both PD and ED in Powers -> Compound Power).
You'll have to adjust in the Characteristics tab to match the wanted value, since you buy the Resistant PD/ED through Powers, but there's no way to enter Power Modifiers in the Characteristics tab (that I know of).

Another other way is to buy Resistant Protection. You'll have to set it to "Add to Primary Value" to display correctly - it does not add to the PD/ED Characteristics, but it adds to the appropriate defense.

    Just to clarify.

On the Characteristics tab, purchase 6 PD, 3 ED.
On the Powers tab, purchase 1 PD and add the Resistant Advantage (Make sure Totalling Options is set to "Add to Primary Total")
On the Powers tab, purchase 1 ED and add the Resistant Advantage (Make sure Totalling Options is set to "Add to Primary Total")

The Notes column on the Characteristics tab will now display "7 PD (1 rPD)" and "4 ED (1 rED)". For export templates, 7 and 4 will be the values exported for PD and ED (because of the setting for Totalling Options).

Firstly, thank you for your time and response.

I have tried both of these ways, but the Cost doesn't match the cost listed on page 474 of The HERO System Bestiary, which is listed as costing only 1-point for both resistant PD and ED.

You'll have to adjust in the Characteristics tab to match the wanted value, since you buy the Resistant PD/ED through Powers, but there's no way to enter Power Modifiers in the Characteristics tab (that I know of)..

Doing it this way, purchasing both PD and ED has total cost of 2-points. Also, the output on the Characteristic tab doesn't match as well - either with power(s) set at Add to Primary Values or set as Add to Secondary Values. Here is how each selection displays:

    -- Primary Value --
    8 PD (1 rPD)
    5 ED (1 rED)

    -- Secondary Value --
    7/8 PD (1 rPD)
    4/5 ED (1 rED)

So the Add to Primary Values is not viable since the creature only has 7 PD/ 4 ED. The Add to Secondary Values selection is doable if you ignore the value after the slash. However, this is undesirable since it can be confusing especially if I forget why it displays like that in the first place, LOL!

Doing it this way, purchasing Resistant Protection for PD and ED has total cost of 3-points; which doesn't match the listed cost of 1-point for the Tough Skin power in the Light War Horse template. Also, the display is off as well.
    -- Primary Value --
    8 PD (1 rPD)
    5 ED (1 rED)

    -- Secondary Value --
    7/8 (0/1 rPD)
    4/5 (0/1 rED)

Again, using the Add Primary Values selection is not viable since the values are incorrect. Using the Add Secondary Values is workable, but clunky and can become confusing on the fly.

As stated before, I could make this work by hammering the square peg into the round hole so that is not really the issue. More importantly, I would think that if it's listed in an officially published book I should be able to recreate the power in Hero Designer, but in this instance that doesn't seem to be the case- much to my frustration. I should be able to recreate the power and have the point cost match and display.

Here's the original information from the template in the book:

    Code:
    1 - Tough Skin: Resistant (+½) for 1 PD/1 ED

    Total: 7 PD (1 rPD)
    Total: 4 ED (1 rED)
Perhaps I'm going about this the wrong way: is the listed cost for the Tough Skin power just a typo in the book and incorrect to begin with?

    It's a Naked Advantage:

Resistant (+1/2) for up to 2 Active Points of PD/ED (1 Active Points)

Purchased in that way, it will not affect the displayed values on the Characteristics tab (nor should it).

If you'd like to have the Characteristic values adjusted, you will need to sell off 1 point each of PD and ED on the Characteristics tab and then purchase Resistant Protection.

2 point _savings_ for selling off 1 PD and 1 ED on the Characteristics tab
3 point cost for purchasing Resistant Protection for 1 PD and 1 ED

    Final cost: 1 point

    Cool, and thank you.

Doing it this way will have the correct PD/ED and will display as shown in the book. Although, it still brings the original cost for the Tough Skin power into question as doing it this way will have a total cost of 2-points (1-point each for 1 rPD and 1 rED).

Thank you as well! This was what I needed.

The Naked Advantage method of recreating the power is what I was looking for as I was able to recreate it in Hero Designer:

    Code:
Tough Skin: Resistant (+1/2) for up to 2 Active Points of 1 PD/1 ED (1 Active Points)
Although, it doesn't add to the PD/ED totals on the Characteristic tab as noted. The second method (also suggested above by another poster ) will have the display correct; and have the correct point total after the shuffle.
