Old Man
Not even an experiment, just a dimensional analysis conversion problem. Seriously, kiddos, can you not see that that answer doesn't make any sense at all? Flashbacks to when I was grading papers. "Altitude cannot be negative!" "Orbital speed cannot be faster than light!" "Mass is not measured in meters!" "You call this handwriting?" Rails and Pariah

Cancer
Is it bad to use four commas in a single sentence? In a row? Yes. Otherwise? Hey, you've asked the guy addicted to long-winded digressions, extensive and even nested parenthetical comments, expostulations in passive voice, use of five words when one would do, and ... I'm up to fivesix commas already, aren't I?

I'm up to fivesix commas already, aren't I? There are times when one word really isn't sufficient. Sometimes it's impossible to convey context and nuance without five or six words. And their are times when five or six words as opposed to just one is simply more fun to say or more satisfying. There's nothing wrong with that, either. And what's wrong with a little sesquipedalian loquaciousness, anyway?

Pariah
I used to grow a goatee every April in preparation for the AP Chemistry exam. It was to let my AP students know that I was going to be an even more unreasonable and demanding SOB that I had been for the rest of the year. It was the Evil Mr. Pariah. Now that I'm no longer teaching AP Chemistry, it hardly seems worth the effort. tkdguy
