I've seen a number of regular posters here who seem to have devoted a great deal of their time, creativity and enthusiasm to a particular game-related project. Whether it's nyakki's Random Character Generators, or Eodin's "Trek HERO" PDF, or Keith Curtis's "Savage Earth" setting, or Worldmaker's "Master Lists" of Physical, Psychological and Social Limitations, quite a few folks seem to have at least one special thing that stays on their minds, gets their juices flowing, that they keep coming back to again and again to improve and expand.

So, would you care to share your personal pet gaming projects? What are you working on that you're particularly proud of and excited by? Setting, game aid, ruleset, characters, HERO or other, whatever?

For my part, for the past few years I've been borderline obsessed with developing the 3rd Edition Champions villain organization VOICE from Steve Perrin's classic adventure VOICE of Doom - updating the characters, expanding the structure of the group, creating new characters, agents, equipment and so on. I won't claim the quality of the other projects I listed above, but some of you may have seen a few of my ideas on the "VOICE List" thread on the Champions discussion board, which is also blessed with input by Steve Perrin himself, and by Bob Greenwade who's also developed VOICE extensively.

So, what do you have cooking that gets your mojo going?

I loved this Thread and resurrected it once already, but now I have Privite Messaged many of the Threads Posters and have gotten back some good responses.

So like the man said "So, what do you have cooking that gets your mojo going?"

Cheers

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

Well, for me it is kinda of the thing that has my attention at the moment. I don't have ADD until it comes to gaming and then I am everywhere. Things I would like to get time to work on (HERO only)

Battlestar Galactica writeups (the new version)

Dr. Who (re-imagined writeup for a campaign I am thinking about)

Star Wars (rework my Star Wars conversion for a possible campaign)

Conspiracy X setting converstion to HERO

Currently I am working on a writeup from the Nephilim RPG for a campaign I might be running.

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

I'm working on solidifying the background material for a high fantasy setting I've used on and off. I'm also trying to finish up the Archetype writeups for the Henchmen Hero game I'd thought of setting in there. In addition to that, I need to finish up Nautilus and Captain Nemo writeups for Susano, and polish my Talislanta Hero writeups to post to the Fantasy Hero section.

My goal this year is to have moderately successful, content-rich threads in every forum. Of course, that's my goal every year, but this year I think I'm close.

As soon as I feel better I will add more timeline info to my Victorian section and I am also working on a Magic Girl/Action campaign background that will either be a new section to my web site or if I think it is good enough I will submit it as a Digital Hero article and see if Dave thinks it is good enough.

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

I'm still plugging away on Savage Earth. I just recently added forums for discussion and role-play (http://www.savageearth.net/fourms). My latest project is a huge map of the campaign city that I can either print out and piece together or post in slices to the web, all hot-clickable and indexed to the website.

I'm hammering away on my own setting, as well as converting some old Hero stuff and other supers stuff to use within it :) I'm also working on some more packages for Digital Hero and starting work on my own Star Wars conversion, as well as some of my own worlds for Fantasy & Sci Fi :D

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

Once Traveller Hero is finished (if that's the right word ;) ), I'll probably split my efforts between my Arcania pdf and Trek, maybe work on a variation of Masters Of Orion HERO (pulling bits I like from 1, 2, and 3 but based in 2).

Then again, TravellerHERO was not on my old list, so whatever the Muses put in my head to work on/inspire me to do. ;) Maybe Al-Qadim HERO...

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

I plan on continuing to work on my (and now my groups) campaign setting, Epic City. We started playing this winter and I started to work on some web-pages, but its been so nice recently that I don't want to be locked in my cell, er office working on web-pages. Since other other people will likely be GMing some in the world, I need to clean up some of the notes so that other group members can run it.

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

Two things:

1) War of the Worlds Champions. This is the one I'm really doing most of the work for right now, including props like an in scale walker for the tabletop and reading up a lot on how to sound stuffy and British. ;) Though I should really tip the hat to Susano and his friend Nestor for not letting me get all "Gemini" and distracted by something shiny.

2) Vatican Hero. Not really what it sounds like. Think Indiana Jones crossed with Knights Hospitalier and you're a lot closer to the mark.

I have started doing a little work on the weapons and equipment from the anime (and manga) Gantz. I have the X-Gun done and have a few ideas about the entangle pistol and the rifle thingy. The suits will be an interesting design since they are multipower that can burn out if their defenses become too stressed.

If you don't know what Gantz is this is a link to the offical ADV site.

Any chance of making that War of the Worlds Champions War of the Worlds Hero. Fighting Aliens since 1836, 1890, 1930 , & 2005.

There are a lot of gaming Resources out there for this setting, but we need more information please.

Sounds great can't wait to see it.

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

I just want to learn the current rules edition. It is a long time since I played (at least 6 years), and I've only just bought 5ER.

Then, I have an idea for a Villian organisation that I'd like to write up, and a write-up of tactics for their Agents. Unfortunately I just don't have the time at the moment (working full time, studying for a degree part time, young family, other gaming interests, long bursts of laziness, etc, etc).

Right now it's based on a premise similar to Wild Cards. The Black Smoke used by the aliens has an infinitesimally small chance of not killing you and instead giving you super-dooper powers. Setting is 1902 England. It just bugged me that the martians figured out space travel via launch cannon and yet managed to overlook a little thing like sealed life support. ;)

Re: Your "2005" Pet Gaming Projects

I am suffering from the same thing as Herolover. I retired out of the Navy in mid '04 and have finally settled into a good job I enjoy that leaves me plenty of "off" time. But I can't seem to nail myself down to one project long enough to do something. When I was in it was never a problem to focus. Now it seems to be the norm.

Edsel, I just "discovered" anime a couple of months ago and am still figuring out what I like. The "Gantz" site was pretty limited. I couldn't get the trailers to download (went to a different site and had no problems). So I still have no idea what Gantz is about, other than several magazines say it's fantastic. I was thinking they probably (anime makers) are heading down the same road that is causing general book sales to decline. I mean the popular authors are doing fine, but if you are looking for a new fiction writer it is all a crap shoot. Subject catalogs are dead so if you want to find period fiction, either you already know the title/author or you cannot find it. and all the book flaps have "Shmuckatelly loved it!" Rather than a basic synopsis. But that is neither here nor there. What is Gantz actually about?

Well for the time being things have been decided for me. A couple of players have decided to start D&D campaigns so I am switching my game to another night and restarting my Champions campaign.

For something to work on during my time I am goin to be working on my Star Wars campaign.

Edsel' date='[/b'] I just "discovered" anime a couple of months ago and am still figuring out what I like. The "Gantz" site was pretty limited. Rather than a basic synopsis. But that is neither here nor there. What is Gantz actually about?

I have only seen the first six episodes of the anime and that has hooked me. I also have read a lot of the manga. The manga has never been released in the US but a scanlation is available on the internet and it can be found here. Hope their bandwidth doesn't get overflowed.

I first learned about it by watching the anime. I have episodes seven and eight right now and plan to watch them later this week. It is oddly addictive. At first you really want to dislike the main character, he seems to only care about himself, but there is a heart in there. Below is a brief summary.

Basically the story primarly follows a second year high school student (in Japan, of course). He and a friend are apparently killed while trying to rescue a man who had fallen onto the subway tracks. Just when they think they are dead they find themselves teleported into an apartment in Tokyo. There they meet a small group of people who all were sent here just as they "died." Also in the unfurnished main room is a large black sphere. The sphere is Gantz. Gantz tells these people that they have died and that they now belong to him/it. He sends them on "missions" to kill aliens who are residing here on Earth. During the missions the aliens and the Gantz "agents" are invisible (sight and hearing) to the rest of the world. However the damage that they cause in their battles is visible and if someone bumps into them they realize that something is there. They have an hour to complete each "mission." At the end of the mission Gantz gives them each a score. To Gantz this all seems to be a game. Gantz, who actually seems quite stupid, even tries to joke about things. People who die on a mission are truely dead. If you survive, no matter how badly injured, you will be teleported back to the apartment completely restored to health. After a mission you can go home and everyone can see you again and they probably won't suspect anything. In a few days you will be teleported back to the apartment for the next mission and replacements will have been found to bring your group back up to about 10 people or so. The scores that Gantz gives at the end of a mission are apparently important. The rumor is that if you gain a total of 100 points you will be free and never have to come back. So far nobody knows of anybody that survived enough missions to get 100 points. The newbies get no instructions on how any of the equipment they get works and most do not believe what is happening when they get sent out for the first time. If the people with some experience don't explain a few things to them the newbies usually die. Its really pretty bleak, but like I say addictive.

One last note the anime is rated TV-MA (strong language, graphic violence and nudity). The manga is not for kids either.

I have worked up the X-gun from Gantz and I think that the rifle is just a much longer range version (sniper weapon). The tri-barrel gun is interesting it can entangle or do a teleportation usable as an attack against anyone who is already entangled. The suits provide body armor, can boost Strength, running speed and even grant invisibility of sorts. The characters will start without any idea how any of this stuff works (they have to experiment).
