Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread

Happy things, huh?

Hmmm. Most recent one: several companies have, in the recent past, made low-carb / no-sugar mixes like brownies. As a diabetic, these are a godsend. Alas, all those companies have now discontinued them.

But there's a bright side! :)

A few days ago, my sister found a bunch of them on clearance for about 50 cents a box at a mall near St. Louis, and bought all they had. Wheeeee!

Very cool! My dad has the opposite problem. Hypoglycemia, bad enough that he takes anti-seizure medicine for it on a daily basis, and has for 36 years. He was annoyed when cyclomates were banned, and went out and bought all the Sweet-n-Low he could before they switched it over to saccarine.

He also smoked for about 50 years. Finally a few years ago a doctor told him that if he didn't stop, he'd probably have to start carrying an O2 container around with him everywhere he went in the next couple of months. He never had another cig after the visit, just stopped cold turkey. Claims to have never had cravings other than the whole being used to having something in his mouth. Which he solves with cinnamon toothpicks. :)

Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread

Just got back from seeing my parents' new place in Elk Washington. It's pretty. They have a private lage (owned by the home owner's association) and my 68 year old step father is rennovating the damn thing practically by himself. He's a machine. Built his las two houses, but he's finally slowing down and has no patience for subcontractors. I think this is the las big project for him, but he just can't stop imrproving the places he lives....

Thanks Hermit. :D

Oh and... It's my birthday tomorrow.

Happy birthday Chad. :)

I'm fat, under-exercised, overworked, tired, and I've just gotten a steam burn that's making it tough to type. However, so far as I know, no one is planning to scoop out my eyes with a rusty spoon and then drink tequila from the sockets! At least not today! Hurrah!

Also, my sister and nephew are safe, which is a very good thing.

Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread

Today is my birthday. I am listening to an old Ace Frehley song on my computer and it reminds me of a happy thing.

I have laughably "bad" taste in music. Believe me.

When I turned 19 I had been to exactly zero concerts in my life time. I set out to change that. I saw Quiet Riot, Joe Satriani, Chicago, and Styx in the next year and a half. Around then I decided I wanted to see my favorite artists in concert before I shuffled off this mortal coil and they were (at that time) Styx (check), Ace Frehley, and Billy Squier. (Yeah, I know, bad taste in music, so what?) So, the following year, Ace did a show in Eugene, OR (more specifically neighboring Springfield) and I got to go. I even got a guitar pick thrown to me. It was cool. I saw Quiet Riot a second time. Then I saw Styx and Kansas in Portland. I saw Styx (my favorite band) again a few years later with a different line up. However, Billy Squier had pretty much fallen our of the picture. He'd released maybe five albums since his In the Dark salad days and I'd never even seen news of a tour. Then, in 2000, he toured with Styx and Bad Company for the 20th anniversary of In the Dark. The wife bought tickets for the two of us and my best friend who, at that time, was living in Seattle. The show was at the Gorge in George, Washington. It was...FRICKIN' STUPENDOUS! I screamed, I sang, I danced, I got a contact high from all the weed being smoked. It was by far the coolest venue for a concert ever and there were people everywhere! I bought three tee shirts, CD's ...and completed my list. I still rank it up there as the single coolest gift I have ever recieved from anyone.

It deserves to be here. Happy Happy.
