gewing
Barrett has come up with a new cartridge to get around the California .50 caliber ban! The shortened the case of a .50 caliber, and necked it down to .416. It throws a two inch long, 400 grain solid brass SHARP pointed bullet with a Ballistic coefficient of above .92 at 3250 fps! Apparently it is still supersonic at something like 2500 meters. In lesser news, Apparently Armalite and DPMS are going to build AR-15s in 6.5grendel. Kel-tec, who builds one of the ultimate hideout guns in the P3AT, has just brought out a 9mm hideout, it is only .88 inches thick, and iirc weighs about 12 ounces empty. Markdoc
Re: more stuff for the gunbunnies! Just curious -- what the heck do people use something like this for? Target shooting and the joy of owning a really big gun: there's no practical use (practical meaning "not for fun") for it outside military and a few specialised police applications. Barrett, the guy who made the original .50 cal rifle says this: "It's like, what does a 55-year-old man do with a Corvette? You drive it around and enjoy it," said Barrett, 51, whose customers include doctors, lawyers, movie makers and actors. "I know all the current actors who are Barrett rifle shooters, some Academy Award-winning people. But they don't publicize it. They love to play with them and have fun. Shooting is very fun." The way I figure it the same sort of person buys a Barrett as buys a Hummer: it's big and loud and expensive and mostly kind of useless, but it shows that you can. cheers, Mark

A .412" 400grain bullet at 3250fps!!! OUCH!! That will leave a big mark!

I'm curious if the nammo/raufoss Multipurpose ammo like the >50 Mk211 can be scaled down enough for effectiveness. APHEI with that kind of range? OTOH, Barnes makes .416 X-bullets...
