Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

I had pictured no face mask despite the fact she flies at altitude.

It might then be obvious that she is Chinese. And the hair was to be waist length.

Well I have had the amended version with longer hair so now I am a happy camper. Or some such thing.

Silver Swallow either has a psychological or physical limitation that says the longer her hair is the higher she can fly.

She can't do space flight or orbit though.

One Psych Lim is definitely a love of flight

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

This is for "Heroes & Legends". From About Time! Games. They are

currently in playtest and have a tenative release date set for late 2006.

You can check out their website at http://www.abouttimegames.com.

I thought it was a clever tackling of a universal RPG system, instead of the multi figure approach of other covers.

I concur!! I've been trying to figure out a way to do something similar for a website header and this may be just the idea I was looking for. Thanks for the inspiration.

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

I was thinking the dragon was not clutching another moon, but rather a jewel or egg and just kept it really vague... the shape isn't important... but a dragon bigger than the moon is kinda interesting idea... and idea with its own gravity well.

The dam has broke. The multi-genre cover was actually done for a few days. And I've had my more usual commissions penciled but not finished. AFter putting the final touches on an oil commission (still drying, I'll post when its dry), I've had time to get back to finishing up the pile of private commissions.

UP first is SAdhana, the contest idea accepted by Death Tribble.. and I'm blanking on who actually submitted.

And then continuing with Global Guardians, The Fool, a member of the Tarot.

I see... the GG Fool is certainly different than my original concept for the Fool. I wonder if he still has the 50 STR & 30 DEX?

I see. Well, here's my Tarot Council (which was borrowed to create the GG one): http://surbrook.devermore.net/herosource/tarot.html

Looks like the Fool needs an update to 5th Edition.

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

This is RDU Neil's Necessary Evil PC, Cannonball. Which is in the same game as my very own Mr. Shoal.

It is a very different kettle of fish illustrating a character that you've actually been in a game with. Compared to getting descriptions from folks and working just from that.

Neil's description of black outfit threw me, but makes sense in the context of "life during wartime" in Necessary Evil. I just picture flashy. Red and orange, somewhat vaguely. But I went off of Neil's description. My depiction suprised him, but I think he likes it.

What surprised me was the proportions. I'd always had a mental image of a more hulking, overly exaggerated physique. Inhumanly sized arms and chest and such. (The character is a brick type of sorts.) This more "realistic" approach to the image was shocking... though it fits Storn's style of character much better.

The K'tharyn armor, ram-rod brass knuckles and "cannonball" were spot on. The helmet I'd described as one of those black, half dome, old fashioned motorcycle helmets (the kind that look like half a bowling ball on your head) and what was drawn is more reminiscent of British fire brigade types from WWII. I actually like that look, but again, very different than what was in my brain.

Artist interpretation is always fascinating. The idea that Storn was thinking flashy is funny... because black was always the color in my mind... because a cannonball is black. I'm not the cannon firing the ball... this guy IS the cannonball! That was the image in my mind that drove the costume design.

The helmet is an old motorcycle helmet... I googled it. The slight lip and such, that wasn't made up by me. Just so ya know.

Oh, totally understand.

You probably found the first image, and I was thinking more the second. Again... not a bad thing. I really love the picture... just fascinating how slight details can change everything in an image.

Re: Storn's Art & Characters thread.

Hey BC! Your Fading Suns commission is almost dry. Should be able to scan it tomorrow.

This is R.L.'s Black Rose, a 7th Sea character.

I did Black Rose a bit different than my usual pencil sketches, digitally colored. I did a underpainting in black gouache, then digitally colored it. I think it came out a bit "denser" than my pencil/digital stuff. Kinda neat. Bit more time consuming, but not by much.
