What Have You Watched Recently?

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Just recently watched Gangs of New York and enjoyed DiCaprio's acting far more than I ever thought possible. Man but did he stink up the scenery in Titanic.

GoNY was good on many levels, but I mostly liked the big battles at the beginning and end. I never knew that NYC street gangs used sabers, spears, and battleaxes in street rumbles before. ;)

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I've been watching episodes of Brisco County Jr. (hi, Blue! :wavies: ) Just finished disk four. There is a part of my brain that keeps saying, "No way! That's rediculous*!" but the other part of my brain keeps shushing it and telling it to pipe down, we're trying to watch the show.

Bill.

(Funnily enough, it's never about Professor Wickwire's bizarre contraptions; it's usually about the "Brisco takes two days to ride from San Fransisco to New Orleans" scene shifts).

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

Been watching the first season of the American version of 'The Office' Steve Correl and his british counterpart, Ricky Gervais are amazingly, painfully, clueless bosses. I alternate between wincing and laughing at them.

I was surprised that the American version was as close to the british as it is. The over the top stuff is limited and the characters are, by and large, recognizable and different.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I just finished watching season 3 of Northern Exposure. And I've started watching Slayers again from the beginning. I'm being lazy with it and watching the dubbed version, but for the second series (Next) I'll go back to subs.

Also recently finished Scrubs season 4 and Arrested Development season 3.

Movies - I saw Eragon and also Casino Royale. The later twice.

I'm really looking forward to next month, when Pan's Labyrinth opens here.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

My wife's been watching Ugly Betty, so I've been doing so too. It's alright.

30 Rock has been a hoot, though some episodes have fallen short of the really good ones. Alec Baldwin and his character are especially great. I tried Studio 60 too, but it just didn't click for me. West Wing fan, like the cast of the new show, but...trying to do a drama about a comedy show...eh.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

"The Thin Blue Line"--A Rowan Atkinson vehicle set in a suburban police station. Mr. Atkinson plays an uniformed inspector with a ragged lot of misfits as his officers, and a rivalry with the plainclothes inspector (who's an idiot.)

Not nearly as brilliant as Blackadder, but miles better than Mr. Bean.

I find as I get older, I have much less patience with sitcoms. I really don't like the long sequences where characters humiliate themselves unknowingly without at least being (to me) funny.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I'm only trigger happy on Enterprise fans :)

I'll line up, I liked Enterprise. Shoot. :)

My personal ranking -

1) Deep Space Nine

2) Next Gen

3) Enterprise or TOS depending on my mood

4) The other one of above

5) Voyager.

But the worst star trek series is still better than 90% of what is on TV anyway. :)

Just recently got introduced to that one. I enjoy it.

For other Britcoms -

Good Life/Neighbors - the best sitcom I have ever seen.

To the Manor born was fun.

And I also enjoy Cracker great detective show.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I just finished watching the 'Hornblower' series was wondering if they will make any more.

English comedies - Try 'Dad's Army'. I have watched that for over forty years and still laugh at it.

You may like 'Allo 'Allo as well. It is a comedy spoof of occupied France during WWII. Outrageous accents and charicatures.

Ah' date=' man. Watched that growing up. Definitely first-rate. Dad's Army and Fawlty Towers were pretty good too, but Good Neighbors was indeed the best.[/quote']

Once I got older, the UK humor got to be pretty funny. I gave my mother the complete collection of "Keeping Up Appearances" last month. My dad really appreciated it :D
