Basil
Some is trying to build a self-replicating, DNA-like molecule, with different bases! Here. Now there's an idea seed!
Curufea
Re: "Alien" life Very cool! It will be great when we can start cracking the keys to creating life. You know, aside from the possible chance of unleashing viruses and the inevitable religious backlash leading to government fascist acts. But still, I live in hope. L. Marcus
Re: "Alien" life . . . I can see no way that process will be self-sustaining without PCR. For that to happen, the DNA analogue will have to somehow evolve an analogue to the archaean DNA polymerase and associated proteins, and that is, as they say, a really long shot. L. Marcus
Re: "Alien" life Yes, but if it can't make its own polymerase, it's not really self-sustaining. Turn the PCR machine off, and all you've got is a spicy primordial soup.
