Something is obviously wrong with me.  I just had to draw Rhode Island Red up, so here he is in all his feathered glory.

 

I'm making Red a private eye who got cursed on the job.  (He really shouldn't have messed with that old gypsy woman.  Well, live and learn.)

 

Had to resist the urge to have him Hunted by Colonel Sanders.

Been trying really hard not to resurrect one of my old 50 states heroes.

Double Aught Buckley

 

Oliver O'bannon Buckley was born in 1903 in a remote community in upstate New York his father was an experienced outdoorsman and hunting guide and Oliver learnt everything his old man could teach.

 

 

in 1917 he ran away from home, lied about his age to join the army and served with distinction in the American Expeditionary force as a scout and sniper He returned home decorated for his Valor only to find his parents had died of Spanish flu.

 

 

Orphaned and with no other skills he returned to the woods and started a new life as a fur trapper and hunter. 1922 a newly wed Buckley was out on a hunting trip. While he was away his wife and infant son were killed in the crossfire when an bootleggers took cover from a police road block.

 

He returned to find everyone dead crooks and police alike and a trail of blood leading into the woods. Buckley found a gangster bleeding out just a few hundred yards from his cabin.

 

 

Buckley saw red and with his trusty shotgun he cut a bloody swath down through the state killing bootleggers and gangsters till he hit Manhattan and decimated several gangs before killing the kingpin of the gang that killed his family.

 

 

Then he surrendered to police. Despite Numerous attempts on his life in jail, he was still standing 3 years into his multiple life sentences the governor offered him a pardon if he would be willing to go into the wilds and track down a dangerous fugitive who had killed dozens of police and US Marshall's during his multi state rampage.

 

 

Everyone thought he would die but double Aught Buckley was built of sterner stuff he walked into the forest with a canteen Bowie knife hatchet and his trusty Remington 12 gauge. 6 days later he walked out with a beaten bloody but living fugitive.

 

 

Buckley got his pardon over the next two decades he became a legend part bounty Hunter part vigilante. He changed his modus operandi changing from a cold blooded killer to a canny hunter he added rubber bullets rock salt and teargas shells to his shot guns.

 

 

Buckley is an expert marksman knife fighter and tracker. His standard load out is a sawn off side by side pistol grip shotgun he uses as a side arm a Bowie knife and a folding repeating shotgun all concealed under a heavy leather duster.

I have two heroes in my notebooks based on the Rhode Island Red idea. And I have never got to use either one of them.

Before Egyptoid set out to do his US 50 sourcebook, I had already done fifty heroes for my old drawing ideas. I think the Cardinel was the first one I came up with but I am not sure.

The Blue Crescent represents South Carolina as an acrobatic vigilante that only operates at night. He tends to move around in an area that takes in Columbia and Orangeburg.

The Harvey brothers are descended from a long line of lawmen in Virginia. Mark Harvey preferred technological solutions, donning a blue body suit, cap, and equipment and weapons as the Blue. Larry Harvey had fell in with mystical forces, learning minor spells to impersonate spirits. He created a confederate identity and skull mask as the Gray.

The mysterious Ong

 

 

Ong walked out of the jersey pine Barrens one day dressed outlandishly wearing a gaudy silk hat. He was strange man unaccustomed to modern America people usually thought of him as foreigner but he spoke English like a New Jersey native. He has the manners and deportment of an aristocrat. Polite to a fault and slow to anger. He is only brought to violence by attacks on the weak and innocent.

 

 

Ong has spent several years wandering the garden state. he always seems to find trouble a terrible ladies man he and can not resist a damsel in distress which has often caused him to run a fowl of the authorities as well as the criminal element.

 

 

Ong is a skilled dancer and fights with the same fluid grace he is an expert fencer and knows several unusual martial arts.

Ong is extremely knowledgeable on the occult extradimensional entities and pre colonial America but has only the barest grasp on science and modern history but is eager to learn and is often found in Princeton bars discussing metaphysics with undergrads (usually impressionable coeds)

 

Ong’s biggest secret is contained his flamboyant silk hat he is never seen without it and is able to pull a seemingly endless supply of whatever he needs from within from fencing blades to ropes and gold coins to whole roast chickens.

 

There have been several reports of people finding Ong’s hat hanging from a tree and picking it up only to find Ong sitting wearing it the moment they turn their backs.

Seeing as it's my adoptive state I figured I should do new Hampshire.

 

Keene Mind

 

 

Bobby Sharpe was failing college despite his father's desire for him to succeed the sizable donations to Keene state College to accept him and the private tutors Bobby just couldn't cut it.

 

 

So when his roommate a polymath genius working on the medical use of electro-neural STIMULATION to enhance cognition, Bobby was happy to volunteer.

 

 

It was probably a mistake to push for the test run during a major thunderstorm but midterms where next week. Lightning struck the apparatus but instead of killing him Bobby found his brain supercharged now blessed with an eidetic memory and a massively boosted I.

 

 

Bobby would become a local celebrity when he managed to solve a previously unsolvable murder case just from reading a news article.

 

 

The Keene mind is now a consulting detective / problem solver. His lightning fast intellect lets him cut through puzzles like the proverbial gordian knot.

 

 

Bobby was a skilled athlete before the experiment and his new abilities in anatomy and kinesthetics have enhanced his skill in boxing fencing and wrestling but he prefers to outthink his foes.

 

 

His supercharged intellect unfortunately makes him prone to boredom and he is in constant search for new challenges.

 

 

Unfortunately Bobby's success turned his former roommate into a bitter enemy unable to recreate his experiment and expelled for unethical experiments on his roommate.

 

He has become a villain devoted to outsmarting Keene Mind and funding more unethical experiments on intelligence enhancement.

 

His puzzling and perplexing crimes are a challenge to even Bobby Sharpe's brain.

The Constitution is the hero of Connecticut. His endurance and rapid healing ability have allowed him to chase down villains and wear them down until they are forced to give up.

The motto of the state of Maryland is America in Miniature. This is what gave Little Bill his power for he is a shrinker. He can only get to the size of Antman in the comics but prefers to only go as far a GI Joe doll (about 12 inches). He is more than a bit concerned that if he went further he would vanish and not be able to return. He makes a good espionage agent and perform all the tricks that a shrinker can do. Flight is out of the question though unless he uses a jetpack or similar equipment.

This Italian team is based on the Seven Hills of Rome. They are based in the capitol but range across the Mediterranean Sea. They have several people in the group who are multi-lingual

La Quercia Ninfa aka The Wood Nymph

 

 

Quieta frainetto the mysterious young owner of a mansion on Esquiline Hill. A prominent if discreet environmental philanthropist she is linked to a number of environmental and preservation charities.

 

 

The few people who have visited the house over the years find a once beautiful house now shuttered and dusty the lady of the house entertains solely in the beautiful vibrant garden usually under the spreading bows of the majestic Italian oak at the garden's heart.

 

 

Quieta is not her true name her original name is lost to antiquity she is the last of the Querquetulanae or oak nymphs and the oak in the garden is the last descendant of the sacred Grove that once stood on Esquiline Hill.

 

 

Once her ancestors defended just the Grove but as the modern world has encroached and many nymphs have gone from the world Quieta has found herself taking on more responsibility she considers herself a lares or guardian spirit not just of her tree but all the natural spaces and households of Italy.

 

 

in the modern world this has manifested as being a Superhero.

 

 

In her heroic aspect she is a tall powerfully built female figure who appears to have been carved from oak. She wears a simple tunic made of oak leaves. And wields a 6 foot Oaken staff. The staff is formed from a limb of her parent tree and can change shape at a thought normally a simple staff it can become a spear sword or grow branches to form a shield.

 

 

The most common second form though is a long bow. She is a deadly shot able to create oakleaf fletched arrows at will. She is superhumanly strong durable and able to heal from just about anything as long as she can touch her home tree.

 

 

Her ability to communicate with plants is limited but can give her clues a fight on grass or in a forest will find her enemies at a serious disadvantage with her able to sense every movement for a considerable distance.

Vigile

 

 

Angelo Battaglia is Vigile The hero of Viminal Hills but his story started long before he was born his grandfather was one of the civilians saved from Nazi retaliation by the sacrifice of Vice Brigadiere Salvo D'Acquisto of The Carabinieri. Growing up on these stories from his father Salvo Battaglia joined the Carabinieri were he was an extremely successful officer until he died in the line of duty.

 

 

Angelo also heard his grandfather's stories and all of the stories of his father from his many “uncles” (the various police officers from all ranks and services who felt they owed Salvo and looked after his family). Angelo and his whole family were extremely proud when he joined the Carabinieri.

 

 

A brilliant career was expected Angelos natural leadership and intelligence had him groomed for a top spot in the organization but it was not to be during one of his first deployments as a UN peacekeeper in Iraq he was almost killed by a IED. He returned to Italy confined to a wheelchair with significant nerve damage.

 

 

Though grievously wounded he did not want to leave the service and instead transferred to the newly formed Center of Excellence for Stability Police Units creating policy and doctrine for peacekeeping forces worldwide.

 

 

It was an international conference featuring representatives from the G20 a terrorist attack by VIPER targeting several politicians who had spoken out against the organization despite his handicap Angelo was still a hero and when he saw the gun men burst in he tackled the guest speaker and shielded her body with his from a fusillade of gunfire despite his bravery blaster bolts tore through him and into the intended target. They lay on the stage their blood pooling together.

 

 

Angelo thought he would be in hospital for weeks but the doctors described what he had as flesh wounds despite him knowing that the blasts had cut through him from front to back. They sent him home.

The next day he felt better than he had in years when the doorbell rang he stood up and was halfway to the door when he realized he was walking. Confused Angelo got back into his wheelchair and answered his door. Standing on his door step was the speaker from the conference.

 

 

She explained that she was an ATF agent who has been exposed to an experimental super soldier serum whilst undercover with a militia organization with ties to Dr Destroyer. She had been one of her agencies superhuman assets for several years she explained that when their blood had mixed he had received some of the serum that still flooded her body and gained powers. She also told him that scientists would probably want to run tests as the serum hadn't worked for anyone else.

 

 

Angelo was amazed by the changes. The serum created in him not only could he walk again but he was stronger and more agile than before his senses sharper not to mention the remarkable healing power. He contacted his superiors and was offered the opportunity to be part of a new Superhero team. Unfortunately he was unable to remain in the Carabinieri due to the restrictions on superhumans in military service so now he works directly for the ministry of the interior and is based out of their headquarters Il Viminal.

 

 

His costume is loosely based on the historical Carabinieri uniform black riding boots black pants with a red striped seam. His top is a black shirt designed after a military jacket.

 

 

It has a high collar lined in silver with silver lined epaulets. he has a golden classic grenadiere badge symbol of the Carabinieri is embroidered on his right pectoral.

 

 

Over the shirt a white Sam browne style utility belt which has a mount for a shock baton A Beretta pistol loaded with non lethal ammo. a small pouch contains a selection of gold sphere like micro grenades designed to look like grenadiere badges. There are also more pouches containing first aid and evidence kits.

 

 

He also wears the heavy black and red lined cloak of the

the classic grenadiere badge symbol of the Carabinieri dress uniform.

 

 

The cloak is a marvel of advanced materials bullet flame and chemical resistant insulated against electricity and heat. He has trained to use it in combat and to shield civilians.

 

 

He wears a black domino mask to protect his identity.

 

 

Technically his name should be vigilante but to avoid confusion in international coverage they went with Vigile.

Aventinus makes his home among the colleges of the Aventine Hills. The Aventine were originally two hills that were counted as one. Aventinus is the opposite. He is one man that has been split into two. One version is a tall, superhumanly powerful man who uses his great strength to put things right. The other is a miniature genius who builds weapons and equipment to keep up with his other half.

 

Aventinus may be connected to the Olympians in some way, but he avoids such talk especially if anyone asks him about Hercules, or being Hercules's son.

From the Quirinal Hill comes  Il Presidente. This hero is unusual in that he needs to keep talking but then he can do all sorts of things including deflecting incoming attacks. As long as he can talk then he can use powers. These can be more effective if opponents or those who need his help can understand what he is saying. Naturally he speaks Italian but he can get through to the French, Spanish and English.

He now wears 'bullet proof' clothing to stop Germans and Russians particularly from harming him.

Il Presidente is instantly recognisable across Italy and hated by the organised crime organisations there as he has talked several of their members into defecting and reforming.

The hero known as Caput is a mentalist who projects the image of a floating skull while making himself invisible to sight. Based on the Capitoline Hill, he has involved himself in political investigations.

Caelus controls all the water in the area of the Caelian Hill. He doesn't travel far from his home hill, but his power isn't as strong in other places.

Roma Lupo

 

No one knows exactly when the wolf of Rome first became a lycanthrope some suggest that he is a direct descendant of Romulus or that he was the friend Gaius Petronius Arbiter talked about in his Satyricon or a Roman legion art attacked by a wolf fighting the goths Franks or Dacians.

 

What is known that throughout history there have been tales of a mysterious Wolf creature serving Rome in war defending the weak and protecting the city.

 

Luigi Luna is a successful businessman with a luxurious house on Palatine Hill. No one suspects that by night he is the wolf of Rome operating from a secret cave (rumors in the Superhero community say that it is the real cave where Romulus and Remus were weaned by a she wolf.

 

In previous centuries Luigi had to hide his work or risk being targeted by religious zealots now in the modern age he has adopted the Superhero persona which lets him operate openly.

 

Luigi is a werewolf but has almost 2000 years of experience he traveled with Marco Polo to China and learned from Buddhist monks how to control the beast within with the help of a mystic amulet he is able to completely suppress the wolf even. At a full moon. Unfortunately if the amulet is removed he will immediately fly into a berserk animal fury and transform into his most monstrous and potent form.

 

The wolf of Rome battles in a modern. Update of Roman legion lorica segmentata and greaves composed of high tech composite materials along with Pteruges a skirt of leather or fabric strips that is worn around the waist to protect the upper legs.

 

He wears a utility belt filled with useful items. Mostly in operations he is in wolf man form but he has made use of his enhanced strength senses and regeneration in human form to operate undercover. And occasionally transforms into a full wolf as this form is faster and can navigate smaller spaces than his hybrid form.

Harris Mitchell is a bit of a legend in the secret service. He has been shot, stabbed, poisoned, blown up, gassed and been beaten up by martial artists and bricks.  And he is still alive and kicking and doing the job. Unlike others who are laconic, rage or come up with snappy comebacks, Harris does a mean silence. A raised eyebrow or a shrug is about all the communication you get. It has been theorised that he has some form of regeneration but it is not clear. He has a lot of scar tissue. Nothing gets past him. Several people with invisibility or powers that cloak the mind have found that out to their cost. He knows martial arts, can use most firearms or bladed weapons with some skill and can endure a lot of pain by force of will. His call sign is Star 1

The Globe protects his charges with round forcefields that fend off direct attacks. Offensively, the globes can be used as cells which direct attacks back at their users.
