Dynamite Dan

Daniel Smith. A normal name for a normal man. But he is one of those destined to be part of the revolution. He will provide the explosives and the means to detonate them. It seems the world is heading towards a confrontation between fascism and communism. And Daniel knows that this is going to be the Great War. Not that phoney war that said goodbye to the empires of Europe but one that would pit working men against authoritarian drones. But America looks like it might sit this out. Well no, not this time. American policies made the world what it is. The ridiculous ban on the sale of alcohol. The raising of tariffs against imports. All of it. Time to shake things up an start the war in America.

The Radon Brigadier

Now completely insane, the Radon Brigadier was a supervising officer in a research facility who lost his mind ... and his body ... when overseeing the setting up of an experiment with large quantities of radioactive material at an Army weapons proving center. Physically he is now a cloud of radioactive gas, invisible by day but detectable by its faint blue glow of Cerenkov radiation in darkness. And, of course, he makes any nearby Geiger counter buzz like a spastic rattlesnake, and ruins all undeveloped photographic media within ten yards of him. At first it was thought he had been flash-incinerated in the accident, but the horrible truth was deduced after the engineers and officers of the facility were murdered in bizarre ways involving radiation over the weeks following the accident. Only truly air-tight seals seem capable of keeping him out, and he is now working ... killing ... his way up the command chain, through the military district hierarchy, and clearly bound to go after the general staff as well. Burned into papers on a desk was the warning: "I paid the price for meddling with forces Man was not meant to harness; those who ordered that I do it must pay their price, too."

Next team:

Four teams of hoodlums who commit brazen mass robberies in very public circumstances; the teams have names that are derived from the suits of a tarot deck, Wands, Swords, Coins, and Cups. What are their M.O.'s and what do they prefer to steal?

The Cup-bearers

A secret society with members from hermetic magic, freemasons, renegade Illuminati, and several cultists. They are after the Holy Grail - and their strategy is simple: They rob, steal, or dig up every vessel somehow said to be magic or super-natural. Hoping to pile up enough wealth and informations in the way to finally find the real thing. They are a bunch of humorless fanatics, everyone of them having his diverging worldview, magic concept, and explanation for everything that happens. So they always are quarrelling, even while robbing museums and crypts. "See? I told you!" "You paracelsian buffon, once again you ignore the karmatic relevance of ..." "Silent, you two polytheistic amateurs, yonder comes another guard."

And of course they react rather humorless to any references to the Chalice from the Palace and the Vessel with the Pestle ...

The Swordsmen are a group of wealthy socialites who like to compete in fencing matches. There is only one requirement. You have to steal a famous sword to compete. Members of course prefer stealing ancient swords, but more than one member has stolen the sword from a swashbuckling film. The leader of the group is called the Swordmaster and is currently Jacques Lateier,

The Staff Meeting

Two or three members stage a choreographed fight using staves to provide a distraction as the rest of the team use their staves as vault poles, levers, or simple bludgeons to break into some place, quickly and quietly knock out any guards or witnesses not already out trying to break up the staged fight, and make off with the loot - usually high value items like the contents of a jewelry store's display case, but in some cases going after items with an occult connection. Rumor says the leader's staff is magical and capable of temporarily paralyzing someone, causing a vault door to open at a knock, or otherwise enabling mysterious feats of wizardry.

Their most troubling caper involved a theft from a government funded laboratory rumored to be working on biological weapons; there has been no public statement about what was actually taken.

Moriarty-like, the Chessmaster is always thinking several moves ahead of the police. His loyal followers he calls the Chessmen (though some of them are female.)

The team consists of one Queen, and at least one and at most two of Bishops, Knights, and Rooks. Describe how each criminal, however tenuously, is associated with the themes of the chess piece providing their code name in the organization. Optionally, describe one Pawn - a minor figure who has the potential to become important if maneuvered into the right position. Also optionally, describe a King - some figure vital the Chessmaster's schemes but somehow restricted or hampered in terms of taking action personally.

The palindromedary goes to visit the pawnshop, Dairy Queen, Burger King, White Castle, and finally checks in at a Knight's Inn.
