Superteams from around the world! (Game)

I was so pleased with my contribution to the Japanese hero team thread I thought I'd start a game for us to create teams, we have the Theme Team games, this one is more narrowly defined and yet more open?

Rules: The guy who posts a team must pick a Country, A side (Hero of Villain) and a Number of members. (any other information you'd like to provide is up to you)

The rest of us populate the team, I'm not going to limit you to one team member per post, if you have an idea for all (let's say) 5 members go for it. Then you can request your team.

This is very rules light, so go on and have fun!

Our first team is a group of six heroes, the national Team of France. I lack a name so far.

If you're interested get posting!

I get the Carolingian reference, but "Paladins" sounds very conservative to me. It would be a legitimate name for a French team, but not for the national team.

Unless we are talking about Vichy France, when it would be just right.

Obviously I need to come up with a suggestion of my own. I'll do a little research, and edit into this post.

Hmm. Unfortunately, Legion of Superheroes is taken. ;)

"The France national football team ... traditional colours are blue, white and red, the colors of the national flag of France, known as the drapeau tricolore, and the coq gaulois is the symbol of the team. France is colloquially known as Les Bleus (The Blues), which is the name associated with all of the country's sporting national teams, due to the blue shirts each team incorporates."

and "Nickname(s) Les Bleus (The Blues)
Les Tricolores (The Tri-colors)"

"The Force de frappe (French: strike force), or Force de dissuasion after 1961, is the designation of what used to be a triad of air-, sea- and land-based nuclear weapons intended for dissuasion, the French term for deterrence."

There are a bunch of published French superteams. An interesting one, designed for the UK published superhero RPG Squadron UK, is called "l’Avant-Garde".

"Legion of Superheroes" is translated "Légion des Super-Héros" in the French editions.

Marvel has "Les Heroes de Paris" (correct French: "Les Héros de Paris").

A thought: what would the non-Franglais term for superhero be in French?

Looking at "Paladins" again, it could actually work, if it was suitably qualified to be "Republican" rather than "Royalist" in its connotations. In other words, not too backward looking. "Paladins of Justice"? (Paladins de la Justice)

French Wikipedia has a section on "Paladin" called "Utilisation post-médiévale du terme", which is absent in the English version. It looks like my concerns were unjustified.

So: "Paladins de la Justice" would be fine. Why not?

Force de la justice

Force de la liberté

E'toile de la Seine:  A youngish woman dressed in swashbuckler style and a domino mask, she uses her sword and various star-themed gadgets to protect the neighborhoods around the Seine river.  And now that she's joined the team, the rest of France as well.  Secretly she is trying to make up for her aunt, the notorious thief Lis Noir.

(This one's for you, Log-Man) A play on both the Eiffel Tower and Statue of Liberty (a gift to the US from the French) Mademoiselle Eiffel, an American Ex-Pat who can grow to the size of a tower.

Jennifer Adams is the daughter of former Minute Man (DC Based Super Team)  Lady Liberty, and inherited her mothers model good looks and power to grow to giant size. Unlike her mother, however, she hated DC and fell in love with Europe during college vacations and studies abroad. She speaks perfect french but despite her love of Europe and her people, Jennifer causes a bit of friction as what some consider a "Typical Bossy American" attitude.

La Papillon Noir. (The Black Butterfly)

A woman of Algerian descent from the estates of northern Marseille, who uses an anti-gravity unit and various other gadgets to fight crime.

Papillon (butterfly) is masculine in French, but as far as I know it would be correct for a heroine to use the female form.

She would probably drop the "Noir" part after she meets Le Chat Noir.

The correct spelling should be L'Étoile de la Seine. I like the word play in her name. Seine and Scène (Stage) are homophones in French. Does she have a theater background?

Cackhand & Crook - These two mutant brothers look a great deal alike, but their powers couldn't be more different. Cackhand has energy projection and manipulation with his left hand as its source. He can make constructs or simple but powerful blasts. He tends to be more direct than his brother. Crook has all the skills of a master thief, but his power steals only health. With a thought, Crook can spread illness and disease. Fortunately, folks tend to recover after an hour, but he has shown the ability to escalate it to the point of death at least twice.

I believe that's five

post-1864-0-24411100-1389034881_thumb.jpgbeschermerleeuw: the guardian lion for generations the guardian lions have been the agents and protectors of the dutch crown chosen and tested and trained by there predecessors they are the crown and the nations champion.

previously serving in secret since the explosion of costumed around the world the guardian lions now serve visibly in a golden costume that pays homage to the royal crest.

the current guardian lion is a former dutch special forces officer who was personally selected by his predecessor for his bravery in action as part of the operations in Afghanistan. he wears a golden armored costume and a mask including a golden mane of hair.

He is armed with the guardians sword a mysterious sword belonging to the first guardian lion made of an unbreakable golden alloy.

On his back is a quiver containing seven arrows each arrow has a different function ( the quiver conceals several dozen collapsed reloads for each so he has more ammo that would be obvious) his gauntlets hide a gravity manipulator that allows him to both hurl the arrows(or anything else) with remarkable force and accuracy. it also allows him to generate a personal force shield useful in close combat and for protecting the royal family from gun men etc.

De Nactwatch

Frans Van Rijn was the son of  of an antiquarian book seller in Amsterdam when his father disappeared under mysterious circumstances,

Frans was sent off to live with his uncle a one time forger a thief turned mostly legit recover-er/acquirer of antiques and security consultant. he followed his uncle around the world obtaining an eclectic education and learning to speak 7 languages by the time was 18.

He went off to study at Oxford where he obtained degrees in art history and art restoration.as well as competing in the boxing club. and returned to Amsterdam where he worked part time at the Rijks museum restoring books from there collection and part time as an investigator for various art collectors locating lost or missing works of art. and making a pretty good living from recovery fees.

it was during one of his investigations he discovered the artifact that would change his life seemingly a silver brooch of the kind used to fasten cloaks it was intricately carved with symbols and an image of the crescent moon and it called to him. in the end he negotiated to take the brooch in payment for the recovery of a number of artifacts. he was hypnotized by the brooch and couldn't keep his hands off it he fell asleep the night he acquired it with it in his hands.

he had the strangest dreams that night of using the brooch to draw  shadows and darkness around him so they enfolding him it should have been terrifying but he never felt so safe.

he awoke with a start in his study with the lights out and the room only illuminated by moonlight and at a whim tried to do as he had in his dream to his amazement it worked he drew the darkness and shadows from around the room and clad in this mantle of shadows he found him self stronger faster and tougher than before.Able to leap silently, glide like a bird to, see in darkness like day to vanish into the shadows like a ghost and to summon darkness around him that only he can see through.

he became the night time defender of Amsterdam a dark figure face always shrouded in writhing shadows battling crime. travelling the world recovering stolen masterpieces by day a two-fisted PI for the art world

He is  DE Nachtwatch.

Doctor Drop Legs-  This hero moves like a dancer on fast forward, which is why they call the man Doctor Drop Legs. With his stylish hat over an other wise 'typical' hero costume, Dr. Drop Legs has been seen dodging bullets and weaving through entire mobs of villains untouched. His reflexes and grace are off the charts. He can climb most buildings' walls quicker than some walk across the street as long as there are handholds he can flip too now and then. He's a bit of a show off and folks keep wondering who he might be.

Of course, in his secret Identity, he's Dr. Manning Clement, a paraplegic who is finding the tests of his chemical meant to retore mobility to be very promising, but potentially lethal. He knows its poor ethics to use himself as a test subject, but he'd rather be a superhero dancing on the roof tops for a few years than a crippled man for a lifetime. If his sister ever found out about this, she'd be VERY ticked at him.
