AlHazred
http://www.wired.com/2014/04/mit-whizzes-invent-magical-transforming-furniture/#x In my Traveller Hero game, this is more-or-less how I had envisioned the kind of furniture most people have on their starship. Able to take on specialized shapes for a variety of situations (within reason) you can make the most out of limited resources; the only thing you need is electricity, which is easy to generate in Traveller. BlueCloud2k2
Thing is you'd have to have something in the decking to make the little pillars take the shape you want. Which in and of itself would take up space.
Vondy
Two thoughts: Its a little bit abstract in presentation to easily envision as a useful interface. It is, without further explanation, way too big for "advanced technology." It is a hard (physical) interface. Are we sure interfaces will be physical at all? Why not a hologram or wearable HUD interface that uses gestures, voice or even brain-scan data for interaction? Edit: that's really three thoughts.
