Superhero Miniatures?

Hello all and happy Easter! :)

I've tried a search on here for "miniatures" to no avail.

I'm wondering if anybody has a good resource, online or not, where I might find miniatures to use for an upcoming campaign?

I thought of Heroclix, but not sure of a good resource. Also, are they fairly expensive?

Thanks! :)

Ted

Clix are good. I use them. I used to be a WizKids Envoy back around when HC started, so I have a lot of them.

Other miniatures, there are metal available, sometimes hard to find. I have DC Heroes minis, the old Champions minis, Shadow Run... All depends on what you're looking for.

While not directly a Hero product, if you are okay with 2D versions of your heroes you might want to look into the classic Cardboard Heroes. Basically they are images that fold in such a way that they stand up by themselves, though I am certain that other mounting methods are also feasible. The imagery is drawn by folks like Jeff Dee, and Denis Loubet. I am a fan of them because 1) they can be stored flat (or flat-ish) when transporting gaming supplies, 2) are lightweight, and 3) they are generally inexpensive.

Steve Jackson Games still markets some versions, sold as PDF files, so you can print at will. Here is the link:

  • A lot of times you can find Hero Clixs in large lots on ebay.  I know a lot of people don't like ebay but I've never had a problem.

Funny you should mention eBay, ghornet. I found a lot that looks like a fairly good deal...now to decide if I want to foot out that money for HeroClix.  :)

(I'm guessing/hoping they fit okay within the hexes of a hex map)?

They fit the bigger hex 1.5 inches (i think).

I have used lots of Heroclix/Horrorclix and still due cherry pick various ones as sets come out. As ghornet stated they are 1.5" bases, but I have always just popped them off their bases and re-glued them on 1" bases. I buy 1" circles of mdf board from a company called Sarissa, prime and paint black, and re-base the figs with E6000 glue. It is a little more effort, but the big bases drive me crazy when trying to play on my 1" hex game mat. Other good places to look at buying clix are: Troll and Toad sometimes have random lots cheap; but mostly I have picked up singles at Coolstuff, they have $.99 shipping on singles so you can pick up a few without dreading the shipping. Other than supers, I have built up a collection of civilians, police, military, etc. I also use flats for various genres; they are great, especially when you need a lot of the same. For a stand, I use the same 1" base and  3/4" binder clip. Take the binder clip, remove the silver handles turn upside down and glue on base. Then I take a silver sharpie and number them, so when I have 12 of the same Zulu Warriors, I can keep track of them.

I remove the Clix bases and super-glue them to 1" steel washers.

Excellent resources, BlueCloud2k2...thanks for them.

And EXCELLENT idea about gluing them to 1" washers. I'm guessing something like epoxy or SuperGlue would work?

Edit: hahah...re-read to see you said "super-glue"...ugh...time for bed! :)

Thanks again!

you can also glue them to 25mm plastic bases. Similar to the SlottaBases that Citadel and other companies use. I will sometimes glue a 3/4" washer to the bottom of those plastic bases to give them some weight and increase stability

Superglue works great for this. Epoxy is kind of overkill.

Funny stumbling across this thread. Just on Friday, after asking around, I located the best shop in Toronto for Heroclix. Went there at 9PM and bought a bunch for my new campaign.

Not only will I take them off the bases, but I kit bash them to get what I want. ($4 for a tophat from one mini? Sure! Nice cape! $5? OK. )

I'm going to follow up on all these links.

The one mini I haven't been able to mimic is the character that looks like this (riding jacket, top hat, jodhpurs) but female (so, if one come to mind, I'd be eternally grateful):

Excellent! I found Zatanna (via this thread about Heroclix minis with top hats! http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=475842) but they were all of her in bikinis. I'm trying to break from RPG canon and have our token female character NOT be the most naked one in the group.

This is great. Thanks!

And since you're so great at this, do you know any Heroclix that wear jodhpurs?
